Wow, I'm surprised to see that you can still manipulate maps, months after it was discovered. Calen, have you tried submitting a support ticket rather than a PM to the devs? And this thread is now located in the New Player Help section...??

Yea, as I said in the first post I submitted a ticket on August 21st. Following that each patch I replied to the tickets saying it was still active. Finally I PM'd the devs about it on October 27th. On October 31st I got a reply from Garth Erlam telling me to post it to the main Support forum, so I did. Around November 21st it was moved from the main Support Forum to the Player Support Forum. And now it seems its been moved to the Player Help Forum.

And come CW when they're not used to dropping under different conditions it will come out quickly who used it and who didn't, since they'll probably be forced into maps they don't want to play. Meaning they'll be at a distinct disadvantage, not having mechs that work all around.

You wanna do it? Go for it. I'll gladly eat you alive on the field once they patch it out.

With it going on so long as it has, who's to say it will be patched out even when CW comes along.

Of course it's "good". It hurts no one, lets you enjoy what you like, and ends up having you play _more_ since you're enjoying what you're playing. The worst it does is make you miss a few of the selection codes passes since there might not be any games forming, but if you're willing to press launch a few times to avoid a map you despise, how is that bad in _any_ context?

What worries me is that if this can happen what other things might be removable/modified?

Edit: Formatting

I'm very lost on why this was put into the new player help section.
this is not a topic for new players in anyway.
will have to annoy someone over this :)

to the OP, this was a very bad thing when you could alter the files for things accept the maps ain't that much of a problem.
don't get me wrong I agree its a problem but the solution to lock/check that the map files are there will just lead to more problems.
I'm 100% sure this will be fixed eventually.

I dunno, dude. This is a pretty big thing for them to fix it "eventually". Also, really don't know why this was moved into "Player Help".

A Dev really needs to comment on this directly.

Guess you can stop playing River City Night now if you really want... :) Shouldn't really have that choice in this stage of development, but I guess it's ok with the dev's if they haven't fixed it yet or implement some sort of file checker. :P

And now this thread has been moved to Patch Feedback for the Feb 5 patch.

This thread is really getting around! A few more transfers and it will have been in all the sub-fora this forum has to offer!

Nobody wants it. Btw you can modify nearly everything about the game except combat mechanics themselves, there are no checks at all. For example, if River City Night is too dark for you you can just make it brighter.

You don't have to delete anything, you can just go in and re-name the folder of the maps you don't like.

IMO I like this "bug" as you don't have to play on their very badly done night versions. I know I have removed them all and they take as a hint to remove the maps or at least add an option in matchmaking to avoid them.

I personally see this as a tool for testing purposes to make it easier to replicate a bug that would be happening on a particular map. But I can definitely see where people will/would take advantage of this to the detriment of the game.

Hopefully the client does a check on map load to ensure that files are unaltered at least - don't suppose a dev or mod could check into that or let us know.

I bet that the failure to enter the map creates an empty slot on what would have been your team. This would be easy to try if you dropped with a friend while doing this, and he didn't.
