Ok so I have been playing about 3 days now total and this is one of the problems I see.
Trial mechs are free all the way around the board. (IT SHOULD STAY THAT WAY BUT....)
My issue is this. There is a huge money curve when using a Trial and not a Custom because everything is free to the trial but ammo and damage etc you have to pay for if you own your own mech.

I personally feel that if you are not going to split the game.
Such as Trial fights only trial in Trial combat grids and Custom fights custom in another grid that is seperate, then the damage I take from a trial mech should be free to repair.

You have guys just standing back LRMMING away at your newly built custom and even if you make it inside the LRM umbrella your losing valuable credits while he is going to make 60-100 something K win or lose.

The ammo costs so that's just the way it is, but to make me pay for damage and end up winning but losing credits after repairs while the trial mechs get paid no matter what is kinda messed up IMO.

Those are my thoughts on this. Damage done to a Custom mech by a Trial mech should be free to repair.

Thanks for reading. ;)

I don't agree with this and I own a mech, soon a second one! This would place an even further advantage to custom mech owners over those stuck in trials until they own their own mech. I understand where you are coming from, but I'd rather the system stay as is vs not paying for trial damage to my mech.

I own 2 a RVN and a Centurion. Now if I use Trial mechs I can by a 3rd a lot faster than if i use the Custom mechs.
My Credit rate is a lot lower when I have to pay for repairs.
And if they split the game so you only fought your "class" Trial or Custom then it wouldn't matter.
I see your point but it's a lot easier to grind money when everything is free than when not.

I ground those two mechs out btw. I play for free completely.

Trial mechs are not the issue, since veteran players can run them too.
At some point they will fix the Match Maker to take in to account stats and that will fix a lot of those issues.
Newbs and sucky players will be put together and then vet players will be put together.

I own the second most expensive base chassis in the game, fitted with the most expensive XL engine it can mount as well as upgrades like DHS.

I Never lose money on a loss, even without my Premium bonus.

If you're losing money on wins, you're doing something wrong. That applies to everyone making this complaint.

I'm still sticking with my idea of removing trial mechs and include 20-tonner starter mechs. (Flea-Locust-Thorn)

That is a horrible idea. Light mechs are very difficult to pilot and so much easier to die and get in trouble.
If any thing they should be give a medium or heavy mech to pilot, since it is easier, and more forgiving.

Here is a question while I have some of you here. How do you join a team? My only other complaint is it's hard to learn the game when it seems every match has afk and people who just pick a direction and run to their deaths. lol
Yes I know I'm not a pro at this but I tend to survive Led missions by Vets a lot more than free for alls. ;)

I hear ya, but I honestly think that these lightweights would be deadlier, more survivable and more useful to the team than any trial, even in the hands of a newbie.

Joining a team is pretty easy. look for people with team banners in their Sig (like mine). Click the link or send a PM to find out what it takes to join them.

As for joining a group, I really suggest jumping down to the bottom of Taryys' post and see the merc corp area. Overall it's a great post to read though. ;)

  • Every player should get a Mech right off the top that they can modify and earn experience in.
  • Trial Mechs need to be a fall back position in the event of financial ruin.

Having played multiple matches in Trial Mechs, the desire to advance to the point that you can purchase your own Mech and modify it to suit your own play style is strong. Discounting damage inflicted by Trial Mechs might create a situation where players piloting their own Mechs will seek out engagements with Trial Mechs. That would be kind of strange, don't you think?

/Sigh. This is old news someone has all ready posted on this subject. That said I will say this one more time.
Even in closed BETA we had to start with trial mechs. We earned the money to buy our own mechs so that we could earn xp as well as Cbills. If repair bills got to high we went back to the trail mech to earn more money since it comes with FREE repair, and rearm. The trail mech is not a diadvantage in many ways it is an advantage. The only disadvantages are no xp, and no customization. No custumization though in my opinion is a good thing since the new player in a trial mech has to learn heat management which will serve them well once they have enough cbills to purchase their own mech. Heat probably has been the number one contibuter to mech deaths since closed BETA began and I still see evidence of it happening all to frequently with the newer players in open BETA. So that leaves no xp-easy enough problem to solve earn the cbills and you can buy a mech to earn xp in as well as earn cbills.
