A new Star Wars film every 2-3 years... Forever.

13 years ago, I would have given a damn about this news. I mean, they'll still get my money every time a new one comes out, but begrudgingly.

Let's just look at this thought, shall we:

Disney now has the SW franchise and is quite happy with Whedon, who co-wrote Toy Story (win with Pixar) and did Avengers (win with Marvel)

Whedon does Star Wars VII for Disney and Lucas can't do a frickin thing to ruin it anymore. SW franchise fires up like a reborn sun. Win achieved again.

Do you really think Star Wars still has a huge enough following?

Yup, just saw it on the news and read it here.

I guess it's confirmed, Lucas no longer has a soul...

It was bad enough that they bought Marvel...now this.

Had a similar line of thought when I read the article.

Not sure if this is the worst thing to ever happen to the various Lucas companies, or if is the best thing to happen to them since their respective inceptions.

Disney having Marvel gave me Iron Man and the The Avengers.

I do not consider this a "bad thing". Frankly, the worst thing to happen to the Star Wars franchise was Lucas having godlike control over it- that gave us a second trilogy of horrid sequels and abominations like Jar-Jar Binks. Just consider Disney to be Deadpool (since they own Marvel, it's closer than one thinks:)

Disney can always use another princess in their stable.

A friend of mine linked the New York Times article on it. Lucas Film went or is going for 4 billion.

I will not get my hopes up. It would be nice if they can revitalize star wars but its Disney. Maybe not prequel movie bad but still bland and missing the essence of what made the original good. However if they fix the original movies and take Lucas' madness out of them I will be great full.

did you know that the guy who played Darth Vader still has not been payed for episode 6? he was promised something like .5% of the profits. but apparently Return of the Jedi made no money despite being the 15th highest grossing film of all time.

My God. I just felt a million kill themselves with fake lightsabers in anguish. I also pretty sure another million neckbeards started Fapping.

I like that Lucas will still have input but will not be able to force his awful ideas into the movies. Lucas has some great stuff to share, but he also has some crap that never needs to be seen by anyone.

Still love the line by Harrison Ford about Lucas' dialogue. "You can write this sh** Geroge, but you sure can't SAY it!"

Love it, I hope they do the movies right. Always been a fan of the Star Wars movies. Looking forward to many more.

The thing that usually comes to mind when I think of Lucas having control over the films is that at some point, Lucas legitimately thought this was a good idea:
www.youtube.com/watch?v=8l-44bYXlxE

That sad thing is that half the scenes from the prequels that weren't rejected weren't terribly better.

Frankly, I think having someone else take the reins is the best thing that could ever happen to Star Wars, and not just because we might not get crap like that in the future, but because we might finally be able to free these films from needless injections of Lucas' nonsensical and downright frightening philosophical nonsense that he's spend decades trying very hard to ruin this franchise with.

My reaction to the news, as summed up by the Nostalgia Critic:
