Hey Guys.

Anyone have trouble seeing what your shooting when a catapult with damage glow is darkening your screen?

Go to your advanced settings on the options menu and turn post processing all the way down. this will disable HDR, which is where the glitch resides!

Odd, I get this all the time in my Raven so it isn't just a catapult thing. Makes it really difficult to see where you're going as a light when all you see is the target mech while everything else is black.

I'm pretty sure everyone gets this too.I don't know what to do about it other than don't get super-close to a catapult.

@GL Chozo: it's not your own mech glowing, it's the target mech glowing that blinds you. Catapults for some reason are insanely bright.

Ah, I get'cha now - had it confused with it being something else but now fully understand the post. But yeah... they are a bit shiny when glowing but then.. that sort-of gives a warm-feeling inside making them glow like that (no pun intended). Will keep that in mind next time I brawl so I'm not blinded again now that I know what was causing it.

Alternate work around: put the following line in your user.cfg: r_HDRRendering = 0

I'm working to see if I can science out a better solution for the bloom to keep the lighting effects just without the ridiculous brightness on the cats.

It is specificly the High dynamic range. any time you look at something very bright, it darkens the scene to compensate. the glow on the catapult is so bright that it is forcing HDR all the way down, blackening your screen.

one way to see what i mean, look at the sun in game, then down at a dark patch of ground. it will be very dark, but will slowly get lighter over time.

I've tried that previously in order to hopefully get an FPS bump, but it seems the game requires HDR rendering full stop. Turn it off and you're sat looking at a blank landscape.

I tried this but it didn't work. I'll have to try it again.

Edit: Confirmed this does not work on my setup.

Did not fix the issue.

GeForce GTX 560 ti

Catapults are turning my screen almost completely black out to 270m, which is max range for SRMs and medium lasers. It's... quite fail.

Did not fix it for me, either. And I was wondering why certain mechs seemed to have the ability to turn off the lights on me - thanks for locating the reason, at least.

This is a known issue. It happens with any 'Mech, but it's worst with Catapults. It happens on any map, but it's worst on Forest Colony.

They're working on it.
