In the past 24 hours, I've done about out 30 bouts. Of those, in 10 of them people disconnected immediately before dying, and in 1 we had 3 people disconnect right when they were about to die.
The problem has become endemic, and needs to be rectified.
Easiest solution I have seen in several other games involving pvp has been that, even though a character has disconnected, they remain on the field for a period of time, anywhere from 1 to 2 minutes. Granted, there will be the occasional legitimate disconnect, but the current abuse of disconnects to right before imminent death requires this to be addressed.

Yeah been seeing that a lot for the last 24 hour. Wasn't like that before but now its really bad. Maybe it was the hours I was playing at, different crowd.

Should just keep the 'mech on the battlefield for the remainder of the match so that everyone gets a chance to score a free kill and punish the person who disconnected with a repair bill.
In fact, could even make their 'mech open for free team kills without penalty...
There are legitimate disconnects but they're pretty few and far between.
Also, a system similar to what Team Fortress 2 has implemented could be used:

Of course, it would have to be tweaked since there's no respawning in Mechwarrior Online and matches are over pretty fast enough that someone who crashed may not be able to rejoin quickly enough... But keeping track of disconnects and punishing those who make it a frequent habit could be a decent deterrence.
