well I have no problem with the fancy names, I also like the retainer (skills) from Shogun 2 Multiplayer, with their small proverbs and poems.

also why do we discuss this farther, already said (in here and on the devblog entry) that everything is just for show, and are placeholders...

maybe someone close this Oo

Edit: just give me that fancy pink mechlab =P

"Mighty Missiles"?

"The Sky is Falling"?

I kid... ;)

I'm sure the continuity police will "correct" this grievous offense by replacing the names with much more simpler sounding terms like "TharHes Ares 8a" and "C-Apple Churchill"

....Hobgoblins of little minds if you ask me but I for one will always be annoying my teammates with screaming "BRING THE RAIN!!!" every time my Catapult fires a salvo.

In the Mechlab devlog, a few examples of modules were shown.

"Far View" increases the sight range by 2.5%. The effect itself isn't immersion breaking, but the name could definitely be better, to make it sound like a piece of equipment.

But "Bring the Rain" increasing missile range by 2.5%? I really hope that we're not going to be seeing modules like this, with silly names and no attempt to explain them in terms of canon. Let's keep the design immersed in the gritty Battletech atmosphere. Falling away from that isn't going to help anything, in my opinion.

..sounds like modern warfare 3 game style.

I really hope AC20s wont be able to shoot out to AC10 range. The point of different weapons would then be completely moot. Additionally, a lot of the tactical game style of BT was that you at least partially knew the enemy mechs capabilities, so you could fight them. As there will be no respawns (oh god I hope not), what you fight is what kills you, you won't be able to change your tactics next spawn-in, which is whats required by modules that do this kind of damage/range/specialty modding. The reason it works in console FPS games is because you can pick a different class and keep slugging it out.

The more variables you create, the less stable the game is and the less you can fight enemies with Knowledge, and the more it becomes about "blind luck" countering. I hope they don't screw this up.

For all I care about the names that will be finalized eventually, synergies are waaaay more interesting.
If the percentages add up and carry over from team mates for example (scout/sensor skills or whatever), then a measly 2.5% skill may very well spread over a whole lance/company and affect their performance as well, which may even go both ways. The way these modules seem to work and may interact with other modules and team mates is promising to say the least.

But...but...I kinda like it, actually. There's room for it in the canon, given certain supreme pilot abilities (Maximum Tech rules, folks).

Examples:
1. one pilot was so good, when he died from a cockpit hit, his mech kept shooting for a moment)
2. Patrick Kell: so amazingly good, his mech disappeared from radar. You couldn't target him even
when his mech was standing still, directly in front of yours.
3. Jaime Wolf. That man's Archer could curve LRMs around corners.

My understanding is that modules are supposed to represent a Mechwarrior's custom modifications to his or her interface - the dev blog talks about hacks between the neurohelmet and the 'Mech. If that's the case, it might actually make more sense for the name of a module to sound like something that a Merc might nickname a piece of home-brew hardware.

EXACTLY!

"OMG! Really!? Really!? you have to name someting that I like the way that I doos nutz likes it!"

Just like Xinaoen said....these are pilot modifications. Not every character in the BT universe acts like a knight from the middle ages nor cares about how many contractions he uses in a sentence. "Bring the Rain"? Sounds to me like something someone might say when they want a crap ton of missiles dropped on an enemy force or would you prefer "The moment is Nigh I shall launch all of mine Long Range Missiles down upon you foolish person in a Mechanized War Machine."

The BT universe is great, but hey, THIS....IS...A....GAME. Keep it close to the heart of BT but not so close that it crushes it.

Actually "Bring The Rain" comes from the AC 130 missions in Call of Duty series. I actually like the name, LOL.

Wait, your LRMs don't curve around corners?

Huh.

There is no "Bring the Rain" module mentioned by PGI.

And even if there was, it would increase LRM range by a whopping 15.75m. Which is pretty worthless.

However, any module that gets me more strippers in my ready room during load times is worth it's weight in gold...

Sure why not. Immersion is valuable. Though since you can never lose your mech....
