We're at the mercy of random maps.

You've been assigned a mission on planet "HotAsHell III" (ie. caustic valley)
What mech do you bring? Keep in mind that you're a real mech pilot and these things cost a lot of money.
Well?
Exactly, my good sir, you've nailed it! Indeed you don't bring that 6 Pulse Laser one that you've used to great effect on planet "MyToesAreFreezingOff XI".
There ought to be some way to have multiple mechs ready so you can pick one that actually suits the environment you are deployed to, instead of having to pray that you don't roll the one map that your mech just isn't designed to work on.

The alternative is simply too absurd.

Example:
We hit our drop zone in Caustic Valley, we are planning to hit a mech facility to cripple production and resources that will involve city warfare. You are marching along all prepped for urban combat when the enemy ambushes you a few kilometers from your drop zone which places you still in a hot-as-heck environment

You didn't nail it. We will get to choose the maps in the end (or at least see which map we'll drop on beforehand), but speaking from a lore kind of view, random maps would be most realistic. A Mechwarrior only has one mech to choose from. He'll drop onto whatever planet he's sent to. And he can't even modify his mech the way we do it.
Does an Abrams tank-pilot get to choose whether he wants to drive a Hummer in Iraq just because it has a better air conditioning than his tank? No, you are assigned a vehicle and you use it, no matter where you fight.

Yeah sure. Except cold mechs have extremely competitive dps too, so why use a hot one at all?

The point is it helps round out custom builds instead of having one specific build used every time in every map. It helps provide a little randomness in what mechs you see and use and face off against.

At least thats how I hope they will implement it.
Besides, if they do let us know what kind of environmental effects will be taking place, they need to make them have a bigger impact on the match IMO from what it is now. Make the hot hotter, make the cold colder, and anything else they can come up with.

It's not like it puts anyone at a disadvantage as everyone faces the same challenges. Makes people adjust their playing sty;es however.
PersonallY I like it.

Read above yours. It makes perfect sense. Having served in the military we would prepare for the general environment we were deploying in but we were also prepared for contingencies. We might be deploying to Iraq but we've got a LOT of environments and miles to cover getting there.
