And I`m guessing as well, most complaining about DHS never played MW4 with NovaKittys running around with 7 ERLL and one-shot coring even slightly damaged Atlas`s. Never saw a Novacat shut down from a couple alpha strikes. Thats why we took to arming them, and legging them so they`d cripple around lol. They`d have to suicide to get a respawn. -_-

But see, to get the effective heat dissipation of DHSes in MW4, you'd need like 60 of them even if they were 2.0.

MW4 didn't have a super broken heat scale like MWO, so even if DHSes were 2.0 in MWO, at best someone might be able to run 2 ERLLs, not 7.

I frankly think it's hard to feel too strongly either way about a change that we haven't had a chance to test out yet.

Seems premature to decide if you're happy about the 1.4 heatsinks until they're actually in game.

How the **** can I vote? The patch hasn't dropped so I can't form an educated opinion based on actual in-game experience.

But you can tell if your current nerfed variant will be nerfed even further with the 'fix'.

Can't really compare MW4's heat sinks to MWO

MW4 heat sinks basically all acted like engine heat sinks, in the fact that they cost weight only, and did not limit the space available for weapons when more were added.

That took one of the built in checks and balances of DHS. You simply can't put that many on a mech. And the more weapons you have, the less heat sinks you can fit... And visa versa

You`re probably right, but since IIRC some/most of the devs had played MW4, I`m thinking that had to be in the back of their heads someplace lol

This is not going to be a nerf the majority of mechs. Currently engine double heat sinks are 1.0, while DHS outside of the engine are 2.0. You need at least 11 HS outside of your engine before it exceeds the total HS x1.4 (which doesn't leave much room for weapons).

I can think of only one case were my total effective HS dropped: a CPLT-K2 that I converted from 20 single heat sinks to 22 double heatsinks (also removed Md Lasers and MG). It will move from a [10 + 12(x2)]= 34 effective HS to a [(10+12)x1.4]= 30.8 effective HS. A net loss of three, and only an issue for this particular mech and only because it doesn't have lower arm actuators.

For how crappy SHS are I seriously doubt that normal 2.0 DHS actually broke the game. The dev team just harbors a serious hatred for lasers.

I can't say much, as I haven't played with the 1.4 DHS yet. What I can say is that with way heat currently works, my mechs with DHS will have nearly the same amount of heat dissipation.

"On paper" and "in game" are two different animals. As I posted before (in a different thread or this I don't remember), I don't set a paperweight on my 1-5 keys to spam fire. Aim, fire, and maneuver, rinse, repeat.

This isn't exactly college level math. All the variables to the equation are known to us, no testing is needed.

No time for a witty response. Here's my last response for the math issue. It may seem familiar.

8th grade math will tell me how DHS will perform according to my playing style? I'd love to see that formula.

FYI, I don't set a paperweight on the 1-5 keys to fire everything as fast as it cycles. I maneuver and choose my shots carefully. Also, math will not tell you the type of game experience that PGI wishes to give you. (This isn't about what you want, by the way, but what they want to provide.)

Yep even when we provide mathematical evidence that Gauss is better than Lasers with DHS... they refuse to nerf Gauss and continue hating on lasers.

Suggestion for DHS to be renamed EHS for enhanced heat sinks, enormous heat sinks. I won't knock them till I've tried them.

"I've asked Paul to change the description to reflect the change as well. Not sure if it can be ninja'd into tomorrows patch or not."

I have said it before and I will say it again. These 1.4 EHS should only be two crit slots instead of 3. This way we can eventually get true DHS that take 3 crit slots.
