Is it just me or does the gameplay seem a little too fast paced and frantic for a mech game? In most matches everyone plays with a reckless abandon, and don't care if they die fast because they can simply drop from the game, load another mech and be right back in the action within seconds.

So it seems like there's not enough risk/reward in playing smart and tactically in pubs. There's no fear in losing one's mech as there's nothing to lose. Losing a match doesn't have any real or large negative effect on anything, c-bills, exp, etc all being very easy to stack-up even with setbacks.

With that said I'm wondering if new features should be implemented to encourage players to take more precaution when in battle. Some things to encourage better play would be the following:

ELO pilot rankings, visible both online and in-game. Ideally having a ranking system that displays next to the pilots name when viewing the scoreboard. This isn't a chest-pump feature, rather it's something to provide extra incentive for everyone to treat each battle with more importance as it can drastically effect their rank.

To add more lore ranks can also be tied to what's accessible for the pilot. Maybe some additional customization options, special decals, or banners.. Nothing game changing, but again more incentive for everyone to play smart.

Other possibilities:

Higher repair costs when mech is destroyed.
Larger maps
A mode that features smaller teams? 5v5 engagements maybe?
One-spawn, round based competitive modes

Any additional thoughts...

Elo is going to be implemented.

The pace of battles is quite a bit slow compared to an over hyped steam punk mech version of flying scrap heaps with the fast pace of Tribes/Global Agenda.

Gameplay is great. It's faster paced than MW4 was but no where near approaching Hawken speeds. It's about the same pace as MW2/MW3 without favoring faster mechs too much or slow armored assaults too much.

There's no repair now so that's out.

Larger maps... well I don't know. A lot of people ask for larger maps but being quite honest I don't think it'll be a that much fun. It's already not usual to have games go where both teams orbit around the middle and it becomes a cap rush. Larger maps will likely just encourage this.

ELO rankings will be a big change - I can't wait to see how that one pans out.

No way this game is faster than MW4. MW4 is too arcadish.

Is it too frantic? No. Barely controlled chaos is the nature of tactical war.

Do some 8x8 and be prepared to look at the ridgeline in thermal...for minutes and minutes and minutes...until finally in the 14th someone moves.

Eh, call me old fashioned but I want to play well and not die because then I win more. I think there's plenty of reason to play well, just not everyone can do it.

It's not too bad right now. About the only thing I really wish would change would be slower recycle rates. Let me fire my Gauss or AC/20 only once every 6-7 seconds, but with a little more damage. Don't let me fire LRMs before the last volley hits. Increase laser cycle times but lower pulse laser times. That sort of thing.

How about a survivalibilty median in your stats window which shows the amount of time you can hold in a match (in percent).

For example:
Match 1 lasted 5 minutes. You died after 240 seconds --> Survival rate: 80%
Match 2 lasted 12 minutes. You didn't die --> Survival Rate: 100 %
So after these to matches you have 90% in your stat window.
And so on....

So if you see someone with a survival median of 35% you know he is one of the rushers and doesn't play smart.

You could give out bonuses based on your rate.
If your survival median is above 50% you get an yet to be defined amount of XP more per match. If its lower than 50% your earned XP will be much less.

I disagree good Sir. Larger maps are desperatly needed, especially for conquest mode, which mostly turns into a TDM with more cap points.

The risk/reward of combat in Cbills gave it an additional level of depth that I now believe it lacks.

As was previously said in here "its only a beta."

Eventually when Elo is applied to the matchmaking Im almost positive that RnR will reappear in the game. Hopefully a bit more polished than before.

The pace in WoT is a lot slower and more methodical in comparison, but that game is more arcadey.
