So tonight i was thinking again about how powerful the er-PPCs in comparison to the rest of long range things. I was playing atlas and i had an 1v1 vs a cicada. At long range. The cicada had an er-PPC. I really didnt stand a chance with 2 large lasers trying to get under 900 meters. But its ok, i had to fly away with the center torso coloured red-tomato.

We all know about all the er-PPCs builds sniping our heads. And its a fact that compared to other long range weapons, they are much better. And people complain a lot, its normal, there is no counter.

So i was thinking about, the PPC is like an energy wave, at least it was in the first mechwarrior games, and if i can remember, its damage was huge but not concentrated (im not a mechwarrior super freak and i dont care about the PPCs literature).

So my proposition is: why not making the er-PPCs like bigger? like a splash wave? Same range but no concentrated damage. For example, i fire an er-PPC from 900 meters, and its supposed to do 10 damage. It hits center torso, then center torso receives 6 damage and both side torsos receive 2 damage.
It would erase those sniper overpowered builds and give more oportunities to balanced weapons like autocannons, gauss, lrms, and lasers.

That or reduce the range man, not a big deal!! going bed, good night. :)

this is a classic case of some idi0t thinking he can stand out in the open!!!!dude fire from cover dont expose yourself stay with your team and focus fire. there is ways of drawing snipers out other then running across a open battle field trying to get close enough to hit an out of range target!!!

from personal experience %50 of the people in this game deserve to die because they are dumb and do stupid things. the only draw back to this is they come to the forums and call for nerfs and if it keeps on going we are going to end up with "mech worrior pillow fight online"

Splash damage does little to reduce the single component damage done by PPC boating assaults, but it would drastically nerf long range lights who have to be selective about where they put their shots because they have such low alpha/dps.
A Cicada with an ERPPC is not over powered.

Man i wanna smoke the weed you do.

PPC is a c and It has to stay it. Any changes to it are as dumb as "Lets make AC20 (it's 20 for a reason) deal 15 damage"

If there are any things to be changed then it's convergence.
Pinpoint convergence is the real problem, if they fix it then even 6 ppc won't be a problem since they won't hit one hitbox like in tabletop.

Warning! Irony:
We need to nerf LRMs and Sniper-weapons!
I am forced to run across the open battle field, to get my AC/40 Jager into shooting range - so I can pown the battlefield as I should.

blatant assumptions to prove nonexistant points

Sometimes you have to push.

When you're an atlas, that time is all the time.

We only just got rid of SSRM's doing damage to the CT every hit and now you want to introduce another weapon that'll have a greater chance of hitting the CT again?

Hit the side torso, splash damage to CT.
Hit the legs, splash damage to groin (CT).

This would be a huge nerf to lights cos of their small components. It'd be more than likely that any shot will also do CT damage, however small. Remember SSRMs were only 3 damage but the power was in the constant CT hits.
Now imagine that amount of ppc's out there and you'd have one dead light.

me thinks you should keep your thoughts to yourself.
PPC = Particle Projector Cannon. I have attached the description of the weapon in battletech lore.
------
"The Particle Projector Cannon (or PPC) is a unique energy weapon. PPCs fire a concentrated stream of protons or ions at a target, causing damage through both thermal and kinetic energy.[3] As such, despite being an energy weapon, it produces recoil. The lethality of the weapon rivals that of a higher-caliber autocannon; just three shots from a PPC will vaporize two tons of standard military-grade armor.[4] Targets hit by multiple, simultaneous PPCs can also suffer electrical side-effects, such as overloaded computer systems or targeting sensors.[5] The ion beam also extends to much farther ranges than autocannon fire, though PPCs generate large amounts of waste heat."
-----
It functions the way it should...as AVPAVKER described it sounds like you got yourself separated from the pack and a sniper found you. Don't blame the weapon blame your tactics. Your an Atlas you should be in the middle if not in front of the pack your job is to soak up those hits while your LRDF (Long Range Direct Fire) units fire back at the Cicada or lights hunt him down.

Next time...

1. Torso Twist more - Spread the damage
2. Access the situation and adapt to it quickly. - waiting till your 100 point CT turns cherry red....mate.
3. advance under cover - Stay away from open areas when piloting the slowest and easiest to hit mech in the game.

Energy wave, splash damage... its thoughts like this that make me cringe.[/color]
