We find out, that you can be Ready in Team, even if you dont have a Mech selcted. If you do so, the Game gives the Failure Message: "Game failed to start" or something like this.

You shouldnt be able to select an empty Mechbay...

I don't know, why the devs removed the selection-button for the mech you want to play with.

should be fixed or better, the selection-button should come back!
