The rate of development of key pillars for this game has me very concerned about the future of this game in general. The reason why most of us joined this game was for the "Bigger Picture" campaign to fight for worlds within the IS and make a name for ourselves and our unit that we represent. I honestly think the CW is so vital to this game that it should be incorporated into the game sooner rather then later. I know bugs suck and other things need fixing but here's why I think it needs out sooner rather then later.
The game is getting boring fast. Now I am a beta tester so it's expected to be a little burned out from beta, I get that as I've beta tested many other games, but this important pillar of the game would solve several issues that the game currently has.
FACTIONS- If you join a faction you should start with a certain types of mechs and variants from those Houses. This would solve the crapy "Trial" mechs with making say 8 to 10 specific house mechs. Players would then use their real money or CB to purchase mechs (that cost more) outside of their house. This should also allow Unit forming so players can form their own units and be able to communicate with them at all times. All players join generic House units until they are recruited by a Unit Commander that was formed by a player.
BIG PICTURE - Every successful game needs a something big to work torwards. Right now that's either too easy (purchase every mech with real money) or takes forever without real money. That's not what BT or MW was really about. The main focus should always be about taking planets away from the other house. Players could have 1 or 2 mechs and be happier with those 2 mechs because they are making a differance and since it's setup as everyone basicly gets house related mechs everyone is in the same boat.
EX: House of Kurita LT: Raven MM: Hunchback HY: Dragon AT: Atlas (Each would have 2 variants).
MONEY - The In game economy then wouldn't be such a big concern as long as you can keep your mechs running and a little to put away for the next mech purchase. With others in the same boat though it's just more prefrence then anything else. Real money should be spent like other games do such as creating a new unit could cost real money. After joining that unit the commander picks out a skin for his Unit to wear. Skins and nose art could also cost real money again, not having an affect on play but unique to the player. Players still could purchase mechs but shouldn't be such a difference like it is now.

also note that PGI needs to make money, if only to pay for the lights and servers, let alone wages for the staff. You have good ideas but there has to be some allowance for PGI, to make a profit somewhere.

PGI said that 3 months after relea....uhhhmmmm.... going open beta they will start with the Faction warfare. So, around Jan/Feb 2013. My opinion is they will not say a word about how it will be until Mid December. Because, we all know
>insert random Dev statement< = Flame ON!
So they will wait until they realy know how it will work and how they want it. I think we have to be patient!
The other thing is, that there are some issues within the game which have to be repaired immendiatly, or at least have a higher priority for most players.

Newflash: if you tell your customers to 'show their own game,' you won't have customers for long.

Expect Community Warfare to be get pushed back at least 2-3 months. My guess would be start of testing the new features (I guess/hope on a test server) will start in February, perhaps release in April.

My best (last) information is that release date is possibly Jan/Feb with CW coming approximately 3 months later. There was a statement that they had NOT STARTED coding the CW. I am sorry I do not have the link, it came from a casual browse thru the various forums. The OP is correct tho, we really really need some feeder info on the general plan for the CW. For ex..Does a House unit, or merc unit for that matter, provide a mech? If the House unit provides a faction mech and then pays for repair and reload, what about the merc unit? What about Lone Wolves? There will certainly be a Solaris, so how will it work? 1-4 mech money combats? Player stables? Will there be PVE mechs and equipment (artillery/gun emplacements/target spotters etc...)?
How will we obtain a planetary base if in a House? Merc unit? Lone Wolf? How will such bases be defended? Alone or can we have allied units join in? Lots and lots of questions of course - maybe this might be the time for our player base to start making suggestions to devs on what we would like to see. Be best of course if we had some idea on what PGI plans in general so we know where to point our suggestions. Although they haven't started coding yet I know they have some type of general plan, probably based on income available. Like the OP I hope they release at least a general idea for us to help maintain our present level of interest and gain the attention of the incoming players.
Side note: I clicked the 'tutorial' button and got a UTUBE video. I would politely suggest that they institute, ASAP, Wolves Training Ground (canon). Thus allowing a new player to practice with all available mechs on various terrain and weather conditions. Then when they feel ready, allow them to go to the Mechlab and the Trial/Owned mech game. Present system is going to cost a lot of new players - just my opinion.

As my post stated, they can make money infact they already did with the Founders program and could still have Hero mechs and skins and so on to make their money, plus I didn't say that they couldn't purchase mechs with real money just that it would be other houses mechs and variants. Their own house mechs are free except for Exp could unlock other mechs within the house.
Example: Assault standard is the Awesome (1 varaiant) then they could unlock other variants or work up to say the Atlas. If you want an Atlas -K then you would have to purchase out of House type of mech with real money or lots and lots of CBills.
I actually wrote a full campaign on how I would run the CW for this game (Or my own campiagn website) and could be pretty easy for the most part. I even made rules that Merc groups can run any mech but gets lesser tonnage per battle. Once a merc unit shows loyalty and becomes veteran to Elite they gain more tonnage per match. House units all get the same tonnage starting off and then can get even more tonnage on the road to elite. House commanders purchase Merc contracts for so many turns. Merc units with the more website funds cost more to hire but also has a better reputation and more wins, hence making a name for themselves and bragging rights. All individual players (players not part of a Unit/gaming clan) can join generic house units or a generic Merc Unit comprised of only individual players or to help lesser units fill ranks. I've hosted many WW2 campiagns on websites and wrote a short book on the campaign setup for this game. I started making the interactive map of the IS with planets, mech production, weapons and so forth from Mechwarrior Raids books.
