I have just looked at the Mech I want to field and found out in the Piloting skills the Centurion needs to unlock the basic skills with it's TWO variants AND the premium mech Yen-Lo-Wang. This is not fair as all the other mechs have enough variants to choose from to open up the elite skills.

please could you open up a new variant for the Centurion!

Quote

Known Variants
The chronic difficulties suffered by the Luxor autocannon have resulted in a wide range of variants.

The most radical variant replaces the medium-heavy autocannon with a full-feature Luxor DDX-5 heavy autocannon. To accommodate the additional two tons of weight, the medium lasers have been removed. The resulting 'Mech, the CN9-AH, has a substantially higher potential damage curve at close range. This variant suffers from two serious problems. lt can only carry a maximum of ten rounds for its heavy autocannon and it must close to within 90 meters of its target to be fully effective. As a result, this variant is usually assigned to guard duty around important installations, supply bases, and DropShips, where it has an ample supply of ammunition. It functions as a major component of storming parties, where close combat is the norm.

Another common variant replaces the autocannon with one heavy and one light Angst L-type laser and another four heat sinks to dissipate the additional heat generated. Four extra tons of armor are also added. The Lyran Commonwealth uses this model quite often as a guerrilla fighter.

Innumerable other variants exist in small numbers. MechWarriors should be aware that when they meet a Centurion on the battlefield, there is a very good chance that it will not have standard weaponry.

They will eventually... believe theirs a variant that uses the Artemis IV that will be intro'd when that comes into the game... (November-ish timeline)...

Think of the poor Jenner Pilots... 90% of Closed Beta they only had 2 variants unless they had the Founders variant as well... so don't worry, they'll add more variants as time goes by....

Wow really?

How are PGI going to test anything when a part of their user base can't test the skills?!

The skills of the Centurion were tested and deemed working in the Closed Beta.

Anyway a new variant is on it's way to the game, you won't have to pay to get the master skill of the Centurion, the Devs even posted about it.

So hold your horses.

The game is missing key systems already a few percent boosts aren't the end of the world for something which just came out of closed beta to get a larger test base.

I believe a D variant with Artemis is due in the next patch or the one after, so this week or in the next fortnight. Not long to wait - by the time you earn the exp on the two variants already released the third should show up :)

This was in patch notes/email on 25.10.2012:
NOTE: The Centurion CN9-D will be appearing on November 6th. We understand that you will not be able to elite the Centurion line until then. We apologize for the delay as the CN9-D is reliant on the Artemis guidance system.
