How big is the MWO community so far? How many players are actually online right now since the beat went open?

LOL, that is only the number of registered players. If you look a little lower, you see the actual number of players online.
Right now:
1,285 users are online (in the past 15 minutes)

Apparently this is the same number as was previously displayed inside the game. Not looking good.

The numbers are looking fine. Hate the mindset these days where if there aren't x amount of people playing the game then it's a fail. Numbers are fine.

No, they are not fine. If you think this is fine, you are delusional. Not even 2000 players online during open beta in a well-known online shooter that belongs to a very famous franchise is not fine by any definition of the word. This shows that people don't care or have tried the game and don't want to keep playing.

We'll agree to disagree. Other internet games have what would be considered a low playerbase yet they still run. So yes, it is fine in my eyes.

Apparently you don't know the difference between the forum and the game? Hint: they're different. This forum has "active users" which is the reason the stupid thing makes you log if you're idle for 10 minutes.

That's just the forum, and judging from the number of players I've encountered in the game who don't even know or possibly care where the forums are, the number playing is likely 10 times that at least.

It would be nice if we could get some hard numbers from the Devs though.

.
If X amount of people "AREN'T" playing, then "YEAH" something is up.... So what's a good number 3,000, or 1200..??
What numbers are fine...?? Don't seem to get that the future of MWO depends on X amount of players playing, and X amount of players paying dollars.. Wake up...

No. Please don't state "facts" that you made up, it will just cause people to repeat them.

The number on the forum is the number of people who have been logged into the forum in the past 15 minutes (seems obvious, no?). It has absolutely nothing to do with the game.

To answer the OP's question: when there was a "players online" counter in the launcher before during the closed beta, the numbers would be between 1500 and 4000...usually seemed to be in the ~2800 range. I'm sure it's gone up since open beta, but I couldn't guess by how much.

The amount F2P games players that pay to help support it tends to be under 10%, so the overall player base is very important to its future

Actually Niko Snow said that you could use that number. I'm sure they're wrong but it does come from a PGI employee.
