Hi Folks,

This hasn't been working, well, ever, but I didn't see a thread since the new website was put in place and so I thought I should post just to ensure the website admins know that this is still an issue. I'm logged out every time I sit at my PC. I'm using Chrome v. 22.0.1229.94 m if that makes a difference, though based on older threads, I'd guess it doesn't.

Thanks!

I use the newest stable version of all three major browsers (IE, Chrome, and Firefox) and it works in all three for me. There are many having this issue though, so I don't know what the problem might be.

Seriously, blackfire, give me some credit. I understand that keeping me logged on requires a cookie and I haven't been deleting or blocking any. Pretty sure I'm using the most current build of Chrome, but I'm not sure why that would make a difference to cookie behaviour. You sure you're not just continuing to use the forums frequently enough to keep you logged in, PapaKilo?

There does seem to be a different mechanic now -- in the prior forums I was able to stay logged in for longer with no activity as long as I kept my chrome browser opened. Now the session is expiring after about an hour or two regardless of the checkbox to "stay logged in".

I cleared my cookie for the website and totally reinstalled firefox and I still don't stay logged in.

Well, they did fix it.

By making the checkbox go away.

I guess that was easier than making it work correctly.

*snork*

Y'all realize it was never meant to keep you logged in indefinitely, right?

Don't want to sound insulting, but these threads keep coming up, so I just want to be sure you mean something different...

Of course not. That would be silly. Just because it means that on every other website on the planet, why on Earth would anyone think that?

Even when it was there, it didn't do anything at all. Not for me, anyway.

I understand your point, but it was said (and no, I don't know where the thread is now due to forum redesign) that the "Keep me logged in" button would keep you logged in if you closed all MWO tabs, unless you closed your browser. It was done this way because of your game and forum accounts being linked. So, for security reasons. I will try to find the thread (from the website admin) that states that and add it in an edit

EDIT 1: From another such thread (here:http://mwomercs.com/forums/topic/32005-websites-keep-me-logged-in-check-box-is-broken/), Senor Paul says

If you close the browser or tab that the website is in, it will disconnect you. This is as designed for your security purposes.

EDIT 2: my own post from the same thread: From what I understand, that button leaves you logged on so long as your browser window doesn't close/it doesn't log you off due to inactivity (as long as you don't close your browser). And yes, that's on purpose. There's a thread somewhere in the website support board that explains it. Some sort of security thing, since your account on the forum is linked to the account you use money for if you buys stuff in the game, I think.

So basically, it was never meant to keep you logged indefinitely.

Still trying to find the original post from the admin, but yeah

EDIT 3: I think this was the post I was looking at:
http://mwomercs.com/...-automatically/

Kyle Polulak said:

The 'Keep Me Logged In' only extends your cookie for longer than the 1 hour normal timeout. It does not save your credentials.

Okay, so even I was not entirely correct, it just extends your session for an hour more than the inactivity timer.

Granted, the post was from a year ago, but I feel it's safe to say that, as I said before, the button was never intended to keep you logged in.

Should it work that way? Meh, I don't really care. But there you go.

FINAL EDIT: Is it even working as they intend it to? I have no idea because I don't use it anyway.

The funniest thing is that as soon as we complained about the issue, it was "fixed" by removing the checkbox entirely. :-)

If only I could adopt this kind of solution to my problems at work....
