once i click launch and the load screen has finished, i'm greeted with a black screen. i can hear the sounds of the game and hear myself die, but can't see anything.

This may or may not work for you, but once the game is loaded ( I mean, you enter the match, you can hear an idling engine ), try hitting ALT+TAB, ALT+TAB.
That's ALT+TAB twice. It'll cycle to windowed mode, and back to fullscreen, and for my group and I, that generally works. If not, wait for a nice big patch
