I know we have those video guides that I've seen and they are pretty detailed but there are still some small things that aren't mentioned anywhere that baffle new players. As an example, yesterday (Saturday) I was playing in a PUG and had someone ask globally how to fit jumpjets to his Mech. I took a few moments to explain where they are in the Mech lab and that it will also say "NA" if the Mech can't equip them on the summary screen. They were asking about a Commando so, unfortunately, I couldn't tell them if it can equip them or not as I've never owned one.

This is just one of many things that aren't obvious and aren't really explained anywhere. You either have to stumble into it or ask someone. Asking someone is fine, but in a game you might not have the chance to ask fully and find out fully before it's over. A few other examples of similar things are players stuck zoomed in while in battle and either panicking or not knowing how to reset to default zoom. XL engines won't be a big issue to newer players but I didn't know myself why they were potentially bad for months in beta. To me they seemed brilliant. Less weight, sure it uses some torso space but that was fine with me. When I found out the bad side I didn't want them any more.

Grouping weapons used to be a big issue until it was changed so that all new Mechs come with a default grouping (awesome idea btw!) but unless you watch the video guide it's very unintuitive.

I'm sure that there are some players who just won't take the time to read guides as well as some who won't bother initially. New players have a very rough time in the game especially against those of us who have had the benefit of playing in the beta for months. I don't think I could stand being stuck in a limited trial Mech running into so many obstacles and unexplained things. I know there are new things coming to help new players but this could really use some detailed information that's readily available. Hell, if it would help, I'd be willing to make a post on lesser known things if others would add to it.

I actually thought about creating a video series on Youtube detailing every specific step involved in MWO. Everything from Trial mechs, purchasing a new mech, weapons and armour, engines, etc etc - everything in the entire game.

But then i baulked at the immense amount of work that would be. Seriously, if i were to actually put all that to a video... it would be hours long. And that is touching on everything.

There are other guides besides the video guides, my suggestion would be for you to look over these posts also.

There is a lot of useful information out there for new players, and for veterans if they look in the right place.

Someone should be payed to do that. Relying on your player base to create a detailed guide and tutorial is......lazy.

I know how to do these things, new players don't. As much as you or I may hate people not using search there is an element of knowing what to search for that may not be there. All those links are threads in different places, pulling them all together like that is very helpful and I'd love to see a list like that stickied for new players. Video guides are great for showing precisely what you need but you can't search for words in videos which is why I was wondering about things on the forums.

The best game play video I have seen is the run hot or die series in the media section of the website. I think a section either in there with links to other videos would be a great idea.
