Hello folks, here are my opinions about the game after playing the Beta for a few weeks.
The Launcher
Seems fine for me, layout could be better. Especially the Mech Inventory. The difference between trial and owned mechs is not initially visible. Also the loadout tab needs some love, the information displayed for weapons and equipment is kinda spartanic. If you really want to compare two weapons, you have to look into the wiki. Also if i buy a mech, it would be nice to have a tab where i could read about the background story and fluff. That would be kinda nice-to-have.
I have the issue that, if the launcher is open, my graphics card (GTX 570) runs at ~90°. Even if i'm not in the MechLab. I don't think this should be necessary.
Gameplay
Gameplay is kinda conservative. The strong tem component prevents getting bored, even during the grind. I'm not a fan of many game modes ( who don't get played anyway ) but te game needs some kind of metagame or more innovative maps.
I like how the mechs have momentum (in cockpit view, mech movement, impact ) . I had the feeling that each mek handles itself a little different. However, personally i would like it to have a little more of this. Also having the pilot placed "deeper" in the cockpit.
Also a nice-to-have: More audio feedback of what actually happened, i.e. a limb has blown off, munition explosion, ...
The grind
Guess here is the partening of the ways. The grind is a necessary part of the learning process and it strenghtens the "finally, my own Mek" feeling. However, lots of people won't like it. Good thing that would help: At last two more trial mechs or more variants of the existing ones.
Weapons
LRM
Annyoing. Simple as that. I really hate them. But i also think, MWO would be a hide-and-snipe fest without them, so they're necessary. However, a think i would love to see: Slightly higher cycle time, maybe around 0.25 to 0.5 seconds. I've played a catapult with 2xlrm15 and 2xlrm5 and had about 5 barrages in the air on roughle 800 meters before the first one had hit the target. Was a little much in my opinion.
SRM
Fine, no suggestion on that one.
Lasers
See above.
Ballistics
They feel good. Only critique: Sometimes arm-mounted ballistics fire into the wilds, absolutly not releated to the actual arm position. Machineguns doesnt seem to suffer from that issue.
Electronic Warfrare
Mostly not implemented yet. AMS is fine since the last patch.
MC Prices
Phew, that one.... Well, to be short: They're too high. 20$ for a Mech with 20% resell value feels a little like wanting to squeeze every bit of money out of the customer. Especially with the initial grind component.
What i would like: Don't make mechs buyable with MC. Make an option to buy visual **** (cockit stuff, camo, ...) for mc and transfer the mc directly into credits. It would feel less like ripping people off and more integer, I would happy spend my money on that.
