I've been thinking back to previous incarnations of the Mechwarrior franchise and I can't help recalling much bigger maps to roam around on. I mean we are vehicles, not people so... I would imagine just bipedal robots to be able to travel a much larger distance. It just seems that at the moment I am playing maps that are designed for Halo 3 FPS type games not giant walking battle tanks. Anybody else feeling this as well. I know its beta still but... It feels more like Alpha. I know Mechwarrior 4 launched with way more maps and much bigger ones.
+ Terrain deformation is non existent. It's like playing a 90s game with awesome graphics but, it's like a coat of paint..... the world is still just as static as always. I'd say give me Mechwarrior 2 graphics if it means bigger worlds.
I am not a big fan of rambling but, any thoughts on this?

bigger maps are coming.
Adding terrain deformation is going to make the lag and various other issues worse. Best we can hope for is destruction of trees and so forth.

I also agree that the current map selection is small. The next map will be the biggest one so far but they should focus on bringing more big maps after that as well to at least even out the map size variety. (Though I think the "shoebox" size maps should be a small portion)

The map designs in this game are one of my biggest gripes. They are small, funneling, close quarter FPS maps and not the maps that should be used for large vehicular destruction. When I think MW I envision maps that allow for multiple engagements where after your team takes a pounding you can maneuver to better location and maps where it takes more than 30 secs to go from one side to the other. As it stands the current maps all offer the same tactics, you can go left, right through a tunnel or down the middle. New maps with more room to maneuver in, maybe even with the option to come up behind the enemy base would be welcome. I don't want to spawn in and already see the other side of the map.

The maps are pretty huge by today's standards, the problem is (as you already mentioned), that mechs aren't people and they go a heck of a lot faster than we do, which means that even pretty big maps are pretty clustered for them.

This subject has been covered, and recovered about a dozen times. I would also like to see more depth to the current zones, and more zone period. Right now its just a wait and see what PGI does thing.

Really? When? After they refurbish one of the current maps? They have avoided this question for many months. Its becoming very clear that they are incapable of making bigger maps.
