The following terms are not conducive of civil discussion, can we agree to stop using them?

basically any of the ridiculous ad-hominem attacks that are designed to insult the user rather than actually support your own stance. Who has more to add?

Actually it's easy to use terms such as "elitist" in a civil matter. You have good terms on this list... but also some very illogical ones. So if I use the word "entitled", currently a discussion is no longer "civil"?
Btw, this belongs in the Off Topic section, as it is not relative to MechWarrior Online.

Generally the way "entitled" on this forum is used as part of a straw man argument. Most of these terms are, as a matter of fact. That's why I put them up specifically.

The problem being that its the context that determines that. Thats why word filters are bad and moderators are good. Mods are human and can understand context. Word filters just make a forum look silly when they ban words willy nilly. Case in point, this forum looks silly because the word filter is already overbroad.

I support the OP on this idea 100%, but am clearly in the minority. It is a wonder the Devs ever get any meaningful info from these forums at all since posts always seem to devolve into:
1. Stop whining, learn to play, quit QQing, you suck, the game is too complex for you, please uninstall, etc. (i.e., you suck, I am better, so please shut up)
2. You suck for not searching for the other 47 posts and reading all 450+ pages on the topic first (i.e., others have already raised this topic, and I didn't read all of those posts or pages either but will insinuate that I did, but you irritate me by bring it up again, so please shut up)
3. Your tactics suck (insert lots of assumptions here), join a clan so you can l2p (i.e., you are a lone wolf loser, join a clan to be cool like me, otherwise see point #1)
Whether such responses are based on actual facts or data points is lost and overshadowed by the arrogance and flippant tone with which it is delivered.
The OP made a simple request to our MWO community for people to treat each other with a bit more maturity, civility and respect by avoiding the use of known derogatory words and phrases that are rampant in MMOs and teh Int3rn3t in general. Interestingly, some people get all defensive and offended by the concept (hrmm, why is that?). Some try to twist it into something sinister (e.g., suppression of the freedom of speech, where does it stop, slippery slope, etc.). Others try to justify their derogatory behavior and put a positive spin to convince others why the disrespectful attitudes and speech are really good for the recipients and they are doing them a favor (after which they promptly accuse the recipient of QQing when they are not grateful for the jerk's generosity). These excuses are simply trying to justify being able to insult, demean, and debase other gamers from the safety of their anonymous IP address and not be held accountable (i.e., bullying). Further, they love nothing more than when they get a response or rise from the participants. The more agitated or emotional the response, the happier it makes them and the more empowered they feel, and so the cycle continues.
Unfortunately, as others pointed out, this idea and general goodwill for constructive, respectful discourse will likely never be seen, understood or accepted by those most in need of it. The temptation to display passive aggressive insults and be an online jerk simply outweighs any opportunity to behave with maturity and respect.
