Right now light have nothing to fear running straight at an assault firing the whole way only to slide off when they slam into its legs at full steam. Worse since little mech have no reason to avoid being in knockdown/melee range they can hide under a larger mechs angle of aim making them impossible to hit with torso weapons. Add to this the need to often lag shoot to hit them, and missles difficulty in hitting them and light have a signifigantly higher advantage over a larger mech than it should.
It is one thing to dodge and weave to avoid fire and avoid getting stepped on and another thing entirely to walk steadily at an atlas's legs under it's angle of fire blasting the whole time with no recourse but other team member who may be dead or engaged.
We need some for of collision back to once again give pilots a reason not to charge head on into other mechs.

I wholeheartedly agree. Collision needs to be back in even if it's broken, as soon as humanly possible. If the netcode helps us with lighter mechs it should be a better experience but unfortunately they said it still isn't working right on faster mechs.

I believe they are putting it back in asap. They needed to fix it as there were issues that were being abused or broken. I'm sure they realize the importance but just in case I add my vote to this. I don't pilot an Atlas (probably the best example here) but even in my Catapult I have light mechs humping me and swarming like a pack of piranha because they don't have to fear knockdown from each other or enemy mechs so there really is little pilot skill involved. Prior, you had to have great situational awareness if you circle strafed an enemy mech.

Once again +1 for this suggestion.

Agreed

Lights are "OP" at the moment because they have nothing to fear from larger mech. I'm finding that unless you kill them quick while still at range, its game over. I've had several games this weekend that was against a team on nothing but light mechs and cicada's. the match was over in a matter of minutes. To be honest i'd rather have a match against a team on LRM boats at least you can counter them with ams, cover and your approach.

I'm just waiting for when the fix comes in and all the light start shouting its unfair you can knock them down (especially from those who weren't in closed beta when you could do it)

Both hit detection and collisions are broken. Knockdown was removed while they fix it, but we still have to use the hit detection.

I would prefer that the devs spend their effort fixing the hit detection / netcode problems before 'tackling' the collision issue. Pun intended.

+1

Lights have always been hard to hit, but even with rubberbanding while trying to stand, being knocked to the ground was their greatest fear. In TT I always put my best pilots in lights and my best gunners in Heavies. stands to reason that this mechanic should work for MWO as well.
