this statement does NOT say we cant remove film grain, it says we can not make graphical modifications to gain an unfair tactical advantage, removal of film grain does not give you a tactical advantage... increasing draw distance would for example, but what you decide to modify is a vast grey area at the moment.

the moderator that removed the link to the patch was incorrect to do so as the patch did not modify any file...
they do not support doing certain things, but as long as you do not mess with the files they put on your system via the installer then you have not, by defintion, modified anything.... true story.

P.S. removal of filmgrain gives alot of FPS back.. "good progress" IMO would be to give us a simple toggle to remove the filmgrain, thats about a five minute fix right there that would show HUGE progress... and last patch dropped everyones FPS, so no i wouldnt say they are making good progress.

As Havoc has said. I have contacted PGI and been told that my user.cfg file package is acceptable use because it does not modify view distances/confer bizarre advantages to players.

The misinformation being spread around here lately is ridiculous. Grandpas freaking out over nothing most likely.

You seems to know nothing about how the engine handles the files - an this is good as it is. ^^
The patch does NOT MODIFY any game files - but it OVERRIDES the game files! ;-)

Anyway ... for more information: please use PM and let this thread r.i.p. before it will be removed completely! ^^

I seems to know what an EULA means and unless it EXPLICTLY states you CAN or CAN NOT do something then it is fair game. modification of a file means you have changed a file. to circumvent a file is NOT a modification, how about you find a dictionary and look up what words mean before you attempt to correct me.

If it is not allowed anymore, perhaps the 1st post should be edited. If it is also pinned everybody could think that it is still allowed...

PGI, since we can no longer alter our user.cfg files, please at least re-enable the Brightness and Gamma sliders in the graphics options.

@KOKO:
You are right... I'll try to edit it after work (can't do it here using web-proxy)

You know it is better and easier to say: "You can not use modifed files" than give us sliders and checkboxes in in-game options for gamma, brightness, shadows, fov, pov, textures resolution, water mirroring etc etc...

Or add DX11 so my processor will not be bottleneck anymore?

there is a answer in "Ask the Devs" about the upcomming minor engine update to address a lot of DX11 engine issues.

I agree, there should be some more sliders before such a restriction...

The graphics options in nearly all games is limited. there are always options 'hidden' in such files that should really be in the game options.

PGI needs to pull their finger out and put in ALOT more graphics option into the game menu, rather than forcing us to alter the cnf file which somtimes works. .somtimes doesnt ..and somtimes causes bugs.

The graphics in this game are very dissapointing even when on 'max'. The texture res is low, the draw distance for texture resolutions is terrible ..so much poping in and out. The overall feel is like a game from 2005, not one using the latest CryEngine from 2012/13.

meh guess u cant really complain, this is the norm nowerdays, smaller companies just cant cut it, and the larger ones that could generaly dont becouse they just want to make money by churning out games fast. The few that do, are few and far between.

well draw distance is a straight up tactical advantage, you can view a max of about 1.5km but have weapons (ac2, gauss) that can still do respectable damage beyond that. being able to run up the middle of alpine in a scout, JJ to max altitude and see every mech on the map is another one.

Play River City on max. spec. with no cfg. Then play River City on min. spec. with no cfg. You will see that distant buildings are not drawn correctly and you can see through them to the enemy especially if you are on the landing platform, you can see the enemy easily enough to know where they are going from the dock.. You may even land some long range shots if the invisible buildings do not block you. Most the times the buildings block the shots, but you can still see the mechs there. The buildings in the lower specification setting are not drawn after so many meters (I think about 1200m), this is great for snipers and scouts.

Ok, so we are allowed to edit user.cfg. What can we put in user.cfg that will help us squeeze out extra FPS?

I say this as i'm stuck with a 9400GT while my usual card is sent back to the manufacturer for repairs. ANYTHING will help at this point...

On the light effects, are you playing in Full Screen or Windowed (or Full Windowed)? If FS, switch to Windowed or Full Windowed. This is to eliminate the possibly that it may be heat related. Full Screen mode GPU is likely being maxed out at 100%, increasing heat being generated.
