IT is possible PGI.. And i know u dont wanna because of selling off trial equipment for c-bills..
But all u have to do is Label equipment on trial mechs as [TRIAL] and make it only mountable on a trial mech. but yea thats right have a whole second set of equipment and such labled [TRIAL]
ac/20 on a trial mech becomes ac/20 [trial]
Then all u need to do is Make [Trial] equipment worth 0 C-bills so if someone tries to sell it they get nothing for it..
For now u dont have to put any trial equip up for purchase in the mechlab.. though demounted trial equipment can remain in inventory..
then u allow customization of trial mechs in mech lab. any purchased equip is regular and may be retained for use on owned mechs..
at this point u can reinstate repairs for trial mechs.. any trial equip damaged is free repair.
but since ur trying to make trial mechs for try outs give a discount repair cost to any equipment that is non trial..
this discount for standard equipment on a trial mech only applies to auto-repair after a match (which u make mandatory). thus nobody can swap damaged equip from a standard mech and get cheaper repairs for it..
the fact that trial mechs earn less cbills by designed penalty, and gain no XP, should be enough to keep them from replacing standard owned mechs...
As it stands now Trial mechs are stock builds that have the most frustrating heat management in the game due to the inefficiency of heat sink dissipation when paired with the 2x-3x increased rate of fire on weapons.. Implementing a customization system like this could do wonders to making them more viable for people to learn the game with..
and to try and get people to learn some heat management before they can customize a trial u can put some kind of unlock system in place. make it based on a # of battles in the trial mech (10 to 15 or so). and anyone with say 50+ battles under thier belt has them all unlocked for customization.. suicides and early disconnect do not count.
This lil unlock system would ensure that they have some experience in a mech before they can try to customize one.
