Trial mechs are relatively poor. Hopefully we can all agree on that. The solution in my mind is a relatively simple one.
Remove Stock mechs as a choice, and start having player suggested builds.
Experienced players would have the choice of submitting a current config (from the mechbay), along with a short description as to function/design. These would then be vetted by the Admin and added to the Trial Mech DB.
They would function exactly the same way (constantly rotated, no XP gain etc). The benefit of this is new players are able to function effectively on the battlefield, making their enjoyment of the game much more likely and increasing the chance they will stick around.
You could possibly offer a small reward for players whose builds are selected. For arguments sake, lets say an MC bonus equal to the percentage of choices. Just as a small thankyou to the player, while fostering deeper ties to the community as a whole.

These are not the Trial Mechs you're looking for...

an interesting Idea, but I wouldn't give an MC reward. My reasoning is that no component on any mech cost MC. Therefore I would give a decent cbill reward 1 time when the mech is selected by the devs, say in the 1-5 mil range.

Indeed a very interesting idea however a couple of questions instantly pop into my mind.
1. Would XL build also be available
2. Would there be only 4 mechs available then and how frequent would the rotation be?

I'm quite sure that some of the trail mechs don't even have case's in them. the weapons used are quite limited. if the devs want people to put there money into the game they will need to convince them that the game is fun. when you get in a trial mech for the first 20 games most likely you will die and maybe get a few kills this is NOT enjoyable (getting your *** handed to you every single game)
For the first time players or thows from the old days you want to make an impression on. they need to make the trial mechs comparable to the custom mechs maybe scale it back 15% firepower wise. and give some good weapons when they jump in a mech you know what they want. they want to try the gauss rifle im not saying to give it them. im saying sticking an ac5 on a dragon or centurion is not going to cut it. give them a real taste of the game not the biter taste and resentment from dying and losing all the time
we need some real mech rotation as well at least swap one mech out a week
i have been in the beta for about four months now. The first set of trial mechs were the best for overall balance

I still think the biggest flaw is the missing AMS. The trial Awesome comes with LRMs, so you see a lot of missiles raining from the sky, but none of them have defenses against the missiles (other than cover, which most trial mech players won't know how to use effectively at the start anyway).
So I really just suggest putting an AMS on them and that alone should fix a bit of their problems. CASE on the Awesome atleast could also be a good thing.
