Is there a Locust version that is over 60 tons? Oh yes, it's called the Marauder. I'll pilot that. It's the Locust's big brother.

the locust (http://www.sarna.net/wiki/Locust) has many variants for various play styles so i ask you brave recon pilots what would you pick? mine would be the LCT-1M - The LCT-1M was a long range version of the Locust. This variant carried two LRM-5 launchers in place of the Machine Guns at the cost of reduced armor protection.[
This one is a sweet 3025 Locust. Literally no armor to speak of but you're hard to hit, harass hard, and with your speed can always stay outside the limits of all guns (save the AC/2 crowd). In a fast strike team like McKinnon's Raiders, the 1M was the bomb.
I could have sworn there was a Locust IIC version that boasted 4xSRM4s and an ER Medium. If not, it's very build able and a superior calvary unit. Suck it Jenner!

Myself I'd have to go with either the LCT-1M, which swaps out the MG's and some armor for a pair of LRM-5's and keeps the Med. Laser, or the LCT-1S which swaps the MG's out for a pair of SRM-2's and keeps the Med. Laser. I'd really like the LCT-3D since it does not lose any armor when swapping the MG's for the LRM-5's due to using Ferro but that model is a ways off in the timeline.
I figure between the Locust, Wolfhound, and Panther I'll be set as a scout with maybe a Jenner mixed in for old times sake (used the Jenner a LOT during the Kesmai and MPBT:3025 games).

Everyone only wants heavy and assaults. They think lights are worthless. A light company is not designed to fight an assault lance. A Light Mechs are used as scouts and t get into the enemies rear to harasses ther missile boats. Now the missile boat has to get off the hill and make sure the light does not get into its rear.

i would say the 1e no risk of ammo explosion. Or running out.

Why the facepalm? If that's what makes the Locust cool for them, 'tho technically the Locust was based on a mech from the anime Crusher Joe and not Macross/Robotech, then I say more power to them.

I suppose. Just being a grumpy old anime geek. Know your history, you whippersnappers!

From everything the Devs have told us, this game will be different in the fact that all weight classes and roles will play an important part in a battle. It has already been stated that scout pilots will earn bonus experience for every enemy mech they scan and identify for the rest of their teammates. Additionally, we have all seen how ridiculously slow assault mechs are in the game footage. I could easily see two Jenners and a Commando picking apart an Atlas, especially on a map with as much cover as the one we have seen. A lance of fast ambush mechs (small, quick and maneuverable with big punch weapons) like the two aforementioned could pin down or severely damage one or two much larger mechs. The Steiner philosophy will not work nearly as well in MWO as it did in MW4, I can guarantee that.

*laughs* I'm with you grandpa and probably just as old with fond memories of watching the SDF-1 fire it's main battery taking out three enemy cruisers. That STILL sends a chill down my arms as if it had just happened yesterday.
