Some Tricks-O-the-Trade for Joysticks in MWO are.

Don't try to pinpoint all your shots (at least not until we get Analog Turning). Lead your target and let them walk into your triggering point.

The "C" command is your friend. Keep it handy because it will instantly allign all reticles and your torso and if you try to do this manually with a Joystick it can take you out of the fight for 3 to 5 seconds.

Set your Joystick up with large Deadzones so you are only activating the axii you want. MWO's pitch, torso-twist, and turning are all independent of each other, but can trigger accidently if the deadzones are too small.

One more thing. Until we get Analog Turning, the way to make a very accurate shot with your Joystick is to replace the Turn with a Torso Twist for you final allignment. If your twist and pitch sensitivity is adjusted correctly you will actually have as much control as a Mouse gives you, but not quite the tracking speed. We do have Analog Twist and Pitch already.

If your Joystick doesn't have a Profiler or it's not very good you can use the User.cfg file in your
C:\Games\Piranha Games\MechWarrior Online folder. And here is what that looks like

cl_joystick_gain = 6
cl_joystick_sensitivity = 1
cl_joystick_throttle_range = 0
cl_joystick_invert_throttle = 1
cl_joystick_invert_pitch = 1
cl_joystick_invert_yaw = 0
cl_joystick_invert_turn = 0
cl_joystick_deadzone = 0.1

Any idea if/how I could get Torso Twist (pitch too) to have a 1:1 ratio with stick movement?

Currently, starting in the centered position (both joystick and torso), if I push the stick to the right, my mech's torso turns to the right. However, if I release the joystick (allowing it to return to the center position), my mech's torso remains turned to the right. In order to re-center my torso I have to push the stick to the left. It's as if the joystick is emulating a mouse, not a joystick.

Short of using the "C" command (as you suggest) this often makes centering the torso awkward at best. It also makes turning the torso 180 degrees take far longer than I like.

My workaround thus far is to simply use the joystick for throttle and leg-turning, and my mouse for torso rotation. It works quite well, but it would still be nice to be able to use the joystick for everything.

Hello Everyone,

I would like to see this too. Would be great if the movements track the position of the axis on the controller. Especially nice with rudder pedals that center.

Thank you,
Monnie

Sounds like you want the Torso Auto Return of previous MechWarrior titles. It's a toggle that auto centers the torso once the stick is released. Veteran pilots turn this feature off, but in the beggining it can help. They turn it off because they don't want the 'mech making automatic movements. When they turn the torso to a position they want it to remain there, this is for circle strafing and moving laterally while firing.

I just keep the 'C' key on my Hat-Down button.

Also I go with the traditional Joystick set-up of turning with the Yaw axis and torso-twisting with the RZ axis. Seems more natural.

Hello Lightfoot,

I use rudder pedals for the turning the direction of the mech's legs and use the joystick for the torso. Having the torso follow the position of the axis would help in aiming and would give a sense of "connected" to the movement of the stick. Basically, stick moves,torso moves. Similar to controls surfaces on aircraft. Move the stick or pedals then returning to center, centers the control surfaces. They do not stay at the last position.

Thank you,
Monnie

I see what you mean. You will need to ask the Dev's for that feature, maybe as a toggle? At the moment Torso Twist is using the MechWarrior default of moving when a command is input. It makes shooting while moving laterally easier, usually, but with a set-up like yours, you would want the fighter plane style of controlling.

I was thinking the same. That way all users can be accommodated.

Thank you,
Monnie
