NOTE - This isnt a suggestion, just a different idea.

What if mechs whose engine was destroyed, were simply made immobile until the pilot ejected or was killed.

Snipe the pilot out of the mech's cockpit and you get 99% salvage. Blow every weapon to hell and you get very little salvage. Destroy the mech's engine only, and it becomes a turret. A turret without weapons (engine would most likely power the weapons i would think) or ability to move its upper torso, arms or missile racks.

Just a wild idea, that i know isnt possible let alone desirable. But it gives something to think about :).

The problem with this is that once an engine goes your mech is powered down. It has no power plant. It would be like taking the engine out of your car. It's not going to work.

I would assume that a mech with all its hydraulics will go limp and fall over anyhow when loosing power (ie it engine). Thus would not be a turret anyhow. The closest thing to a turret you will find at the moment is a legged mech. In the end whether legged or immobile the lifespan of such a mech in battle will be very short.

I think in other forum topics you can find that salvage monies certainly does increase to the winning side when there is minimal damage to the enemy mechs. ie a mech that has been head shotted will provide a greater amount of CBills in comparison to a mech with all limbs blown off and severe damage to waht is left.

Cheers!

The engine in a mech does not turn a driveshaft and associated gear systems as in a conventional vehicle, to move the legs. Rather, it supplies the electrical power a mech needs to flex the myomer muscles that give it movement. A mech with a dead engine does pretty much nothing at all.

Mechs are suppose to go nuclear when the engine gets cored. :)

You're spot on with the salvage, less damaged components on the enemy results in bigger payouts at the end of the match (So, headshots are you're friend if you can pull it off).

As for 'Mechs falling over when they lose power, not necessarily the case, it would depend on the postition they were in when the engine goes down. There are no hydraulics, 'Mech movement is based off of myomer pseudomuscle, a strand of fibers that can be expanded or contracted depending on the electrical currents sent through it, similar to human muscle and ligaments. When a 'Mech's fusion reactor goes offline, the myomer becomes almost completely rigid in whatever position it was in when it lost power, instant rigor mortis. If the 'Mech is in a position where it is unbalanced, it will fall, but it is not a guaranteed thing.

Fusion vs Fission - They don't go nuclear.

Lol, a raven ran head on in to my cored Atlas last night and killed me. I promptly returned the favour when I fell on him... Ranks as one of my fun moments in game.
