The interface to purchase pilot skills can be a little misleading. If you do not have enough Mech XP but do have plenty of GXP, you have to pay attention. The Mech XP button disappears, and it's easy to think you're spending Mech XP instead of GXP. It would be much better if the Mech XP button did not disappear entirely, but instead appeared grayed out or disabled.
