I think it would get annoying REALLY fast. Maybe - just maybe - if you can build some random element requiring human input into some kind of mech startup sequence (probably involving the already existing weapon groups). Then the devs could collect more reliable information about who's boting.

For now just document and report. The devs are probably recording information on this anyway. So let's assist them in their task!

There are a lot of farmers and they are annoying.
There have even been groups of bots spotted, grouped mechs that drop but are controlled by a macro. Would it not be an idea to have a simple 3 character captcha before each map starts in order to prevent farmers and macro bots from ruining matches?

On one hand, this would be annoying as hell.

On the other, I am tired of dropping into a match to find that 1-3 of my teammates are non-responsive AFK'ers or farming bots.

I'm kinda for and kind of against this. Mostly because i find those seriously irritating. I do agree tat something needs to be done about them, though. one person missing on a team is a huge facor, so each one of them, is ruining a game every time they "play"

I'm quite accustomed to captcha, I really wouldn't mind it.

Captcha would be fine as long as it doesn't generate unreadable chinese symbols.

I both like and dislike the idea... BUT, right now with the number of bots, I'd gladly type a short captcha to be rid of them... and maybe, just maybe it would cut down on the stupid farmers too...

You know I find it odd that anyone would find a simple fill in three characters question or multiple choice captcha more annoying than half a team being bots or afk and half the player base acquiring xp and cbills through means of cheating. Either way, all nonsense aside, poll added maybe a mod will see the thread and pass the idea on.

Farming

Quote

We are addressing several known issues with farming.

Trial Mech Locking
  • Trial Mechs will now work the same as any BattleMech, they are locked until the match ends. This ends the ability for a macro player to "churn" matches to maximize CB.
Quitting/Disconnecting Early - While Still Alive
  • You will only receive rewards up to the point of disconnection.
  • NOTE: If you are dead, you will receive earned rewards, plus match rewards.
Idle/AFK
  • Players that fail to provide any input will be kicked from a match Although it does not prevent a macro player from simply putting in inputs, it forces them to LOOK like a bot.
Abusing this system is considered a violation of the TOS/COC.

Any behavior you see that could be considered Farming/Griefing should be reported via support@mwomercs.com.

Support will investigate the issue and if warranted will take the appropriate action.

Also, polls should have options, more of them. Your's simply has "in favor of captcha" or "imply I'm a cheat"... biased?? Just a little...

No, captcha is more annoying.

awesome so after every other match, bacause that is how frequent it happens you send an email?
I am quite sure you don' t, prevention makes a lot more sense and this is an effective, simple way to do it.

than half a team of cheaters? are you for real or just a troll? Mind you to each their opinion even if it is pro-cheaters, whatever.

I'll second that I don't know if this is the right solution, but I definitely agree that something should be done... Being down ~13% (1 out of 8, assuming you only lose ONE) right out of the gate is a huge disadvantage to the team, and it's happening enough to affect the feel of the game.

Having NOT fully thought this through... Would it be better to have a "minimum requirements" type system before you can be elligible for payout? Something like "Must do at least 10 pts of damage" or "spot a target" or "cap assist". Something low enough that even the first timers can probably get credit after a match or two, but a stationary mech or just running in circles won't do squat?

Slightly less annoying than your troll poll

Well, if you want to make sure players that are abusing the system get caught and appropriately punished, then yes... Imagine PGI is tracking things, but with added player reports they can get to the ones that consistantly abuse the system.

So, anyone not in favor of your Captcha idea is in favor of cheating? You are entitled to your opinion as well, but that opinion there is wrong... I personally didn't even vote on your biased poll... because of the 2 absolute choices you give us...

I favor the system the Devs have in place as well as we, the players backing them up and reporting players that we observe abusing the system...

This is merely a suggestion to prevent cheaters from entering our game and farming. The Devs have already admitted that it is something very hard to monitor, so prevention is better. But please let me clarify,I know you mean well but I get the strong impression you are sucking up to somewhere so hard it is preventing you from being constructive, where the captcha idea originated is not really important, the cheating has to stop.

How about we give captcha to solve just for you and no one else, since you seem to like it. ;)

Please point out in any of my posts where I have NOT BEEN constructive?? I have mearly pointed out that you poll is extremely biased either voting in favour of Capture or implying you're in favor of cheating. Have also pointed out that at this time, the best thing to do is assist the Devs/Support in self reporting anyone you see possibly abusing the system... WE as players can help make this game free of cheaters...

So, again, please point out where my non-constructive posts have been??

I agree it's really annoying to be missing a mech on your side from the start, we had a game where we started with only seven then got 3 disco's. Then my client CTD ;) Team still won though as other team had one disconnect.

What about something simple as starting mechs powered off and facing a random direction, if the mech doesn't at least power up and face towards the opposition then it's penalised in the rewards.

I know it doesn't help those with the black screen issue but they wouldn't even see anything for typing either.

What if it were integrated into the game? At the beginning of a match all mechs on your team have to "create a secure link among allied targeting systems" to see other team members spotted targets. To link you must put in the random four letter/number code displayed on screen at the beginning of the round. At the end of the round you are awarded 1 XP and 1,500 c-bills for linking.

Failure to link results in no c-bills or XP awarded at the end of the round.
