Poll: To wait or not to wait (41 member(s) have cast votes)

Would you be willing to wait for Melee combat if it meant you had to use a Wii style controller?

  1. Yes - It would suitably represent the effects of the Neuro helmet. (3 votes [7.32%])

    Percentage of vote: 7.32%

  2. No - Implement it now and using the Joystick/ Mouse will be enough for me. (38 votes [92.68%])

Hey

I know the dev team have said they are looking for a good way to handle melee combat. I interpreted this as being that they wanted it to feel natural.

In the 'Real' Mech world the pilot had a neuro-helmet to connect him to the gyro and limbs. This gave the Mech human like qualities to its movement and response times.

Sadly nintendo has not come up with a neuro-helmet console yet so ... what do we do?

My suggestion is that we wait for melee combat till the devs make the wii compatible with MWO.

This would (imho) suitably represent the neuro-helmets human qualities for melee attacks.

So my question is ... Would you be willing to wait for melee combat if it meant that at the end of the wait we were forced to use a wii style controller (Amazon uk - £18) OR - would you be happy to use your joystick/mouse in some way?

there is no "good way" to handle melee combat. People are already pretty devoted to other control systems like keyboards ans joysticks, chances are it will be some key we mindlessly spam like any other simulated melee combat.

I'm against any extrenious costs needed to play this game properly, so no.

I'm against putting melee in MWO altogether. When it comes to unarmed combat, DFA and charge attacks are all we need.

Melee attacks are fine with me, but mouse/keyboard/yoke/joystick are the tools of the trade. Wii controllers are made for the wii and thats where they should stay.

How about "No, don't implement it at all"?

actually that would work just fine. alt to use weapon/punch. different key to kick/stomp. they could be context sensitive and slow to use.

As a space viking I have to say bring the melee action, well that and being a brawler player to start with. I know some are upset that it will give some others an unfair advantage, well yes that is true but if you are too slow to avoid it then perhaps you deserved it in the first place. Just because the rules don't singularly cater to your playing style doesn't mean that they are evil. Don't go home crying that you want mech abc nerfed when your playing style take a large axe to the cockpit because you aren't willing to adapt.

I just think they could add a simple shoulder barge or punch animation that does a set amount of damage based on relative velocity. One/Two new animations for each mech might be a bit much too much though.

It would be great to simply add a realistic melee attack based on weight of mech and all the tech specs. Just so it is more simulation and real time and not something you can spam over and over and do over and over to another mech arcade style we're good. Shouldn't be too tough.

Melee weapons should be added in to the charge damage. Gives the dev team something simple to shoot first before trying to figure out how to add in more where we time a button mash with a charge or just a simple swing mechanic, if at all.

Would hate to think the Axman, Hatchetman, et al, are, or will be, just show pieces.

why not auto combat, when in range you swing your axe if you got one, or punch if you arent using that arm to shoot(cant shoot and punch at the same time...for some reason...its canon) or kick if you got nothing else(a missed kick mean you can fall, pilot check!)

Waste of resources, collision damage is the only "melee" this game needs.

The last time I tried to do a finishing move I almost dislocated my pinkie finger.

So I vote no, mostly because I need my fingers.

Also no to neuro helmets, because they will most likely be based on efficiency of brain cells, and most mech pilots have very few of those left.
