So what about the other portions of the Autocannon20 in the Hunchback and the lower portion of the Swayback.
What is that filled with?

I doubt we will get the full customization available in the Table-top rules since Hard Points are already a known factor. What I envision is that the Hard-points will be based upon the base-model loadout (and perhaps well-known variants) allowing enough critical spaces for the creation of the variants using the MechLab. So a 'mech that carries an AC/5 and a couple medium lasers in an arm could swap them out for an AC/10 or PPC or a Large Laser and a brace of Medium Lasers - as long as the total weapon loadout does not exceed the number of criticals slots allocated for the original weapon config. As an aside, I believe this will be what Salvage will be used for too - giving players the option to upgrade their weaponry as better IS tech (LBX, Ultra, ER, Pulse, Streak) and Clan Tech becomes available.

I'm hoping to TT sized hardpoints. one TT crit slot = one hardpoint slot. However I'm expecting the crit slots to be typed and the vast majority of "empty" crit slots to be gone. For example if your mech originally didn' t mount anything in the left arm, I wouldn't expect 9 free hardpoint slots there. I might expect 2-3 max.

From technical implementation, it could use 4 slots per biggest Hardpoint:

Ofc there can be bigger hardpoints with various schemes
It can be represented by grid the MC2 has for customisation, but separated for each hardpoint
