Keeping in mind "wave 1" is the second wave.

Now, I don't know much about the periphery campaign, but I'm pretty sure the clanners are fighting and from what I understand they have hyperpulse generators in at least some of the periphery, and that a priority message can reach from the periphery to Terra in about 1 earth day (I'm assuming here that "Holy ****, crazy people we've never seen before in super advanced tech we've never seen before are ******* us up!" meets the requirements of a 'priority' message.) So we should start getting information about them soon, even if their first wave after the periphery campaign comes later. More than rumors at least.

Wave 1 isn't in fact Wave 2. The actions in the periphery were entirely designed to gather intel that had been lacking since Wolf's Dragoons cut off the pipeline to Clan Wolf. The Clans needed up to date reasonably reliable intel so they raided pirate bases and lesser periphery states to get it.

Wave 1 was a full court press that hit over 30 worlds across the entire 'top' of the IS and involved dozens of units. Not quite the same right?

Someone mentioined this hypothetically but I am betting it might be the way they bring in the clans. That is to have a few mechs (clan of coarse) show up here and there randomly making a quick strike and then dissapearing. Most likely like the clans would do. They send in probes here and there to figure out just what they will be up against. Unfortunatly most all of us know the story and its hard to see anything from a past story line point of view. But if you put yourself in shoes of people then most dont even know clans existed. Suddenly some attacks are hitting here and there but no one knows whats going on. Inner sphere houses are suspicious of each other doing it.Other people think it is just one pirate group attacking another (they are always killin each other). No one knows what is really happening except perhaps...comstar....*looks at Paul*.

if I were to a wax poetic lee I might say that just because a large waves comes up on the shore doesn't mean that previous waves don't exist.

not that I would do something like that.
