I've got 8 GB of ram and notice that it seems like only about 3 is being used most of the time. I'm thinking of making a 1 or 2 GB ram disk.

In order to have a ram disk benefit the performance of MWO, what/where are the settings for where the game stores temporary files and so forth? (There don't seem to be a whole lot of settings available in-game.) And is 1 or 2 GB enough? More than enough? Thanks.

you're not going to any benefit other than loading time (ie just move the map files to best benefit i think). The ingame performance is all loaded into RAM which you have plenty of.

That is correct

but not only, depends on how the engine works it can be a slightly push in better performance ingame, because the engine loads stuffs from harddisk and a ramdisk can really make this faster and remove stuttering for some systems.

@op
i think that needs a deeper look in what files are active/loaded from mwo ingame, it should be a few of the *pak files and than u should test it what files brings better perf.

I just took the entire Games folder from my C drive and put it on my 4GB Ramdisk partition, then deleted the entire MWO folder from my C drive so the only place that my computer can look for MWO stuff is from my RAMDISK.. startup time and time to start doing stuff in the mechlab are the only improvements i've seen...

EDIT: I also have Teamspeak, Firefox, Opera, and Libre Office on my RAMDISK.. you have to mod your firefox like the RAMDISK site tells you but it does make it a "little" faster...
