Good day folks, I was wondering since I've been playing for a while on Stalker and noticed that whenever you destroy his Right or Left torso it leaves your Center torso exposed (rather it leaves your engine expose) that means one shot towards the destroyed torso and you blow up even if your Armor on the center torso is barely scrapped. My question is, since Stalker itself explodes if one of the Torsos is destroyed, might aswell place a XL Engine. What do you guys think?

EDIT: I mis-read.

I'd stay away from XL engines in something that large, if possible.

You should run some rounds in the Trial Stalker, or an Std Engine Stalker, when you see that the
Damage is all over the Torso, go Xl as it allows much more Armor. When you get single sided Damage stay Standard Engine.
It realy depends on the Playing style of the Stalker Driver how many Damage he gets in one Side. Personally i die often from Side torso blown, but always all other Torso armour already skinned... or deep red... So i take the 3 extra Tons of Armor slpa it on my Stalker and survive longer thanks to higher Speed and more Armor.

Other Stalker Pilots have Problems of weaving the Torso side to side and so very fast their torso is one sided killed.

So take some matched and look of you draw fire single sided or not. It realy depends how you play the Stalker.
When you spread Damage ( which is good possible as Stalker Driver) XL Engine is good, when not stay away.

deathtrap with XL imo. and given that half a stalker is still a very good amount of damage, it's a waste to die so quickly.

True. The stalker's side torso armor is paper thin and it dies to XL engine crit far too easily.

It comes down to play style and skill.

If you are new to the game stick to non xl until you become a better piolet.

I have 3 stalkers, all with xl engines.

Brawler;
When in a fight you have to learn to expose your good armor to enemy fire while protecting your crit spots... all while keeping your guns on target. Once you can do this, throw an xl in.

Lrm boat;
Throw an xl in it if you need the weight. you should be far enough back from the main fights that if you are taking fire you are one of the last mechs standing. In this case your xl310 will come in handy for running (or trying) to cap. Extra weight saved by putting an xl in will also allow you to max out energy hard points so if you need to you can still defend yourself.

Thanks for all the recomendations, I am not new however, I was just wondering since with STD engine or XL engine, both options you die with hits to the Right or left torsos anyway. But I will keep with the STD.

All I can say is every XL engine stalker I've come up against has died much much faster than the non XL engine stalkers.

If you are dying when your right or left torso gets demo'd with a std engine i would either put case in both side torsos or move your ammo. removing a side torso shouldnt kill you with a std engine

Agreed. In an LRMboat or sniper speed to get out of trouble or reposition are important. Sometimes an XL is better than a slow engine if you need the wright. But of course its preferable not to have the liability if you don't need to.

I find that you can fit just about anything you want on the Stalker and still have a STD engine. If you are making a pure LRM boat, or a pure sniper then maybe the XL would work, but I find that assaults become too squishy with one.

XL also denies you 2 side-torso DHS's, which is a big thing really. And given it can run 300std and still pack...everything, i'm not entirely sure what the XL's really bringing you (except lots of side-torso deaths).

Drop an XL into a stalker only if you really need to. I've got Endo & DHS in mine with a standard engine, and it works very nicely if a little bit hot. Standard or XL, it doesn't change that if anything gets behind you then your stalker is done anyways.
