Seeing the gameplay previews duirng the interviews on YouTube and such i was dissapointed to see that the HUD wasnt going to actually be -IN- the cockpit. I heard them say 'we want to put you in the cockpit of the mech' dont you think it would put you that much more into the Mech if all your Weapons, Damage, Heat, Coolant and Tactical Displays were actually in it, and not this Halo-ish style HUD that magically floats infront of you? I saw in at least one video there was the Damage Map of your mech displayed... and then right behind it there was the actual display, why do that?
If you dont know what im talking about, look up some gameplay footage of a game called EarthSiege 2, that game really put me into the cockpit of the 'Herc'
Display Hud - How it should be done?

I am very happy with what I have seen so far. I think the cockpit/HUD has been well done. Although that opinion may change when I play, I am very doubtful it will.

Well... there's this little thing called a Neuro Helmet that has a visor that has a HUD on it.

From what it looks like, you'll get the relevant, immediately important stuff right there on your HUD, but if you want more detail or additional hula girl information there's always the cockpit displays. Just like how they do it in fighter planes.

I think the OP may be looking for the Free-Look button. The one that allows you to see the entire cockpit interior with a glance. The game footage shows the Forward view from the Pilots seat. All relevant data is in sight.

Which is why an ever-present freelook ability (ie, support for TrackIR) is, IMO, such a vital aspect of selling that sense of immersion.

I could be wrong, but I remember the mentioning of the freelook in the cockpit interior description. Maybe someone could look it up? That was the dev post with basic controls and gameplay description.

Well, it's already been said before but the pilots wear neuro helmets with all of the important data that they need fed to them via the helmet's interface, whereas the actual controls for the 'Mech are inside the cockpit itself. So they're doing exactly what they said they'd do, "putting you in the cockpit of a 'Mech". So far, from what I've seen, everything is accurate. To superimpose all of that data on the inside of the cockpit's windows would be a horribly foolish design decision. Say a stray shot hits and breaks the window of your cockpit, well, there goes all your tac data.
