Ok, I haven't played a Mechwarrior game since the Super Nintendo. I play both the Battletech and Mechwarrior tabletop games, however. My GM from there says he would like me to play when this comes out, but I am... new to Online games as a whole, let's put it that way. My computer is less than six months old, so I doubt I will have a hardware issue. There will no doubt be a tutorial, but I was wondering if anyone would be willing to catch me up on what I have missed in the other MW games, and what I should look forward to in this game?

Welcome to the forums ;) I'd check out the link already posted - and also direct you to mektek. It's a free legal version of mech warrior 4 that will let you practice and get up to speed as much as possible.

That being said, please don't use that font every time you post.

Again welcome!

You missed a lot. If possible, try to play any of the previous games, it is hard to do (as they are hard to come by or download + hard to run on any Win above 95). If nothing else, at least try to download demos for both MW 2 and 3, easy to come by and do not have those ridiculous compability problems (well, the demo fro MW 2 still needs to be run through the DosBox). ;)

Not to say there will be issues, but your computer being 6 months old doesn't necessarily mean it'll work.

In terms of story, the MW games do not lead one to another, so you don't really need to be caught up on story. The only thing the previous games offer you in respect to this game is a probably similar control style (but there will be changes, like there always is with each new game.)

for MWO the current year is 3049, and it keeps up with 'real time' meaning today is April 19th in both real life and in the game, tomorrow will be April 20th in both as well.

Mechwarrior 2 can be had by getting used copies off ebay or Amazon, generally you have to use Dosbox to run them.
Mechwarrior 3 can be a pain in the *** to get working correctly, if at all.

Mechwarrior 4 is offered for free via mektek, and there's still a small multiplayer gathering: http://www.mektek.ne...downloads-r1204

Mechwarrior Living Legends is a free multiplayer mod for Crysis Wars (about a $10 purchase) with a decent multiplayer community as well: http://www.mechlivinglegends.net

Thank you all for the help. I will look into the stuff you have posted.

Kinda sad I was already called out on my choice of font though 0_0 Normally it would also have been blue.
