How to bypass the UAC popup on Windows 7:

Since Task Scheduler can bypass UAC all we're really doing is creating an 'on-demand' task that starts MWO and a shortcut to run it.

1. Right click on your current shortcut for MWO > Properties > Right-click & Copy the target, then click Cancel

2. Start->All Programs->Accessories->System Tools->Task Scheduler

3. Click 'Create Task' in the right pane
---On the General tab:
3a. Name = MechWarrior Online (important and case sensitive, or step 4a won't work)
3b. check 'Run with highest privileges' at the bottom
3c. Click on the Actions tab:
3d. Click 'New'
3e. Paste in the target copied in the first step into the 'Program/script' box
3f. Paste in the target copied in the first step into the 'Start in (optional)' box and remove the 'MechWarriorOnline.exe' from the end (important, *not* optional, ime w/MWO)
3g. Click 'Ok' 2x

4. Right-click on an empty spot on the desktop > New > Shortcut
4a. Target/location = C:\Windows\System32\schtasks.exe /run /TN "MechWarrior Online"
4b. Click 'Next'
4c. Name = Launch MechWarrior Online
4d. Click 'Finish'

At this point the shortcut should be usable, keep going to change the icon to MWOs.

5. Right-click the new shortcut > Properties
5a. Click 'Change Icon...'
5b. Click 'Ok' on the nag popup
5c. Click 'Browse'
5d. Browse to <install dir>/Bin32/ and select MWOClient.exe then click 'Open' (c:\Program Files(x86)\Piranha Games\MechWarriorOnline\Bin32\ by default, I think)
5e. Click 'Ok' 2x

These same series of steps can be used to bypass UAC for any commonly used and known-safe program. The part after the /TN between quotes in step 4a must match the Name from step 3a ("MechWarrior Online" in the above example). See the 'Settings' tab of the task itself to verify the 'Allow task to be run on demand' is checked too.

The same thing should be possible in Vista & Windows 8 but probably with slight variances. If anyone on those OSs would like to try it and post their results/steps-needed I'll update and give credit.

Or just bypass the patcher, faster anyway: http://mwomercs.com/...ost__p__1644171
