I dunno how to put this into kind words ... but, new players have no 'effin clue how to stop a base cap

most of them act like they play WoT and try to shoot and kill the mechs from a "safe" distance and not from withing the base cap zone

they also do not know what 'R' does

there should be mandatory tutorials (not skippable !!) before one starts his 1st game

I blame this entirely on PGI/IGP

1st, Hi! How are you doing?

Now, Do you know that the individual doesn't know? Or is it they are hoping to kill the Capper from range, I can get it done with enough time.

Second, People are trying to rack up kills. If you want folks who will play like you are saying you could look into joining a group. Most groups play the way you just pointed out.

because it was us vs them, and they started cap a lot earlier

this trial C1 cat went to scout our cap for enemy, I stayed a little behind (LRM cat-boat)
he "R"d the huncy and instead of going full in the cap zone, he started backing up, I started moving when I saw what he did but too late
so we lost

Did you type into chat that he needed to be in cap to stop it? We're you the least bit helpful to the new player?

Or did you just come here to complain ;)

It's not that they don't know, it's that they don't care. I've had several matches in the last few days where we've lost because someone at our base didn't bother to attempt to stop cap even though our entire team was telling them how, they just sat there outside the zone and shot in.

He is right in one point: The information is very sparse and for the first few matches you are trying to find out how to set weapon groups / chainfire / use cover / lock on to targets and try to get to know the map. Things like preventing base caps or any advanced tactics follow only after several sessions and thoroughly scourging the forums / Youtube for player made tutorial videos.

(Talking about "R" - I play ESDF so T is next target and R is "Show target overlay" - what is that?)

if I assume from the start that everyone in a trial mech does not know basic stuff, without them asking for info, I will spend more time typing into chat various "guides" than actually playing

I saw new players asking stuff at the begging of a match, but quite few; others start thinking "I got this" and fail miserably

in the end, it's not my job to "instruct" new players, but PGI's; so yeah, I just come here to complain
in the CBT it was asked numerous times for tutorials for new players, there's just one and it's done by the people from No Guts No Galaxy ....
that tutorial should be made obligatory watch after one creates his account, before he even begins the client download

This can be changed easily. Change the base capture warning and add the following flashing red text -> "STAND ON YOUR BASE TO STOP THE CAP!"

It is what it is, even if there were tutorials it would still happen. There should be an audiable sound when your base is being capped, when you are preventing a cap, or when you are capping. It wouldn't have to be constant, maybe intermittant, but something that would make players at least say, what is that noise?

Puggers are pretty bad at running around the cap inside the box. They just don't know any better.

You need to ask your self some questions.
1. Am I a veteran gamer/Mechwarrior?
2. Can my knowledge help my team win?
3.Do I want this game to be good and successful?
4.What can "I" do to make questions 2 and 3 a reality?
Its no different than if you are a member of a clan, merc. corp., or house division. You teach/train the cubs/noobs/newbs. Granted its more difficult and time consuming to do when typing in the in game chat. That said how many games do you know of online that have mandatory reads on game play.

Guys guys - the base capture prevention thing IS actually explained in the "Training grounds video" at 3:25, which is prominently displayed.
Still I'd say an obligatory tutorial for beginners would be much better, because the first time I clicked on "Training grounds" I expected to actually be walking with a Mech on a training ground, not a 10m video and a keyboard layout.

I played MW3 and MW4 but still, I do not consider myself a MW veteran player
I do not know a lot of stuff related to BattleTech

the problem is I cannot force new players to watch that 10minute tutorial, although I love to .. but PGI can

Lead by example.
targeting "R" is the only issue I have. I'm not even an LRM boat, but it is still nice to know that we are being flanked. I have taken to using "Q" or "B" to keep tabs on my team since they will sometimes get in a dog fight and never target anything or tell anyone. I like "Q" because it doesn't take me out of the action, and I can still tell when a PUG is in distress and running around in circles.

Wouldn't it be better if there was a training ground that you had to pass through (to say get your mechwarriors pilots license) before you could go into a match. Planetside had something like it when it first came out best Idea I have ever seen in an online game.

yes, of course it would be better, but look ... 3rd party did the new player tutorial instead of PGI
