Go with an atlas, more versatile, the stalker is a missile boat, similar to the catapult but bigger.

The question makes no sense at all.

You should get an Atlas or Stalker if you enjoy the assault class play style and/or if the group of people you usually play with has the need for an assault.

I prefer the atlas personally, but it depends what weapons you like

if mainly energy and missile then stalker, if you like to be able to add in some ballistics then atlas
the atlas is the better brawler, the stalker is the better support mech, generally speaking

but then you can fit 3 LRM 15's on an atlas D-DC as well, so... meh, up to you

I'm just curious why do you think you should buy a stalker or an atlas, there's alot of viable builds that can do over 400pts of damage in a game. You're better piloting a mech that suits your style. So...whats your playstyle?

I hear stalker can do more burst than an atlas. I don't know as I don't care to pilot either of them. Cataphract might be a better choice overall though as you can mod it for more speed later while not really hurting its weapon loadout. But whatever mech you choose, I'd suggest torso twisting and a STD engine. GL.

The Atlas has more diversity and armor, the Stalker has More hard points but less torso twist. Atlas is a frontline monster and long range beast. Stalker is a long range beast and a good close range "support" Mech. What is your preferred fighting style?

If you intend to stand up front: Atlas.
If you intend to rain death from the 2nd line: Stalker

Piloting an assault makes you a priority target if you dont know how to spread damage (Torso twist when your weapons are on CD and the enemy is firing at you) and watch your radar (since youre too slow to run if things go Ti1s up) youre gonna have a bad time...

you mean, stalker is just a bigger catapult, except that you can mount an streak stalker that has enough laser firepower NOT to be scared to death of anyone with a "eye" mark on its mech?
honestly, the stalker is truly the atlas match on this game as long as you can make a build using STD engines. they have quite a tough to hit CT and the ST can take a beating before going down. and unlike the atlas, you really CAN'T think of fighting one head on unless you are in another assault. the atlas advantage now relies on its tried and true specialized builds (specially the heavy brawlers) and its ECM variant (OP as **** in the hands of a good pilot).

I just spent 16 million C-bills on an Atlas and it turned out to be the biggest waste of money for me...

Until they introduce another 100 Ton mech, that Atlas is the king of "Stand and Fight."

Stalker can do it as well, but with limited torso twist, is just not suited to "brawling" necessarily. It can do it, just has some disadvantages the Atlas lacks.

If you want some more movement to your stand and fight tactic (brawling, basically) the Atlas is again the better choice over the Stalker, but the Awesome, Catapult, and Cataphract can all do "stand and fight" well enough with somewhat different loadouts. For instance, the SRM Cat or the Lawlsome (7x MLas / 7x MPulse - still effective in the right hands) or even a Large Laser Awesome or Catapult.

Lots of mechs can pour out damage. I would suggest a different mech, the ever popular Hunchback 4SP. A touch over 900 points of damage is my best, I feel comfortable saying I average over 400 points of damage, probably closer to 500 average. It does take more movement than a stalker or atlas. The plus side is, mine runs at 92kph with speed tweak, so it can also run to cap, or get quickly to a fight. I have seen some great atlas drivers, I myself lack whatever it takes to be one though.

I'd say the Stalker, I've killed many an Atlas in my Stalker -5M loaded with DHS, 4 SRM6's, 5 ML's and an LRM5 to help in any brawl i'm not already a part of. The atlas does have ballistic slots, but it can't compete with the burst damage of my alpha's. I do also have an Atlas in my mech bay, as I couldn't pass on one of the most iconic mech's in existence, and it really is up to you, but I usually do more damage in my stalker.
