As far as the rides themselves more mechs will be getting individual traits, so in future the variants will operate more, well, variably. Right now there's not a whole wack of variance in the chassis but it's the plan for the future.

True, but I still want to put GXP where I please if I'm willing to pay for it.

How about 1.5x XP costs for unowned mechs?
Allows you to get to elite without buying the mechs, yet still gives an incentive to do so.

1. The Economy is built around the fact that you will buy these mechs. Its a money sink.

2. "Try our other Chassis, you might like it" is a good thing to force.

1. A money sink can be argued unnecessary given the relatively small inventory of the entire game (both now and looking forward) coupled with people will most likely stop spend C Bills once they have found a set up to their liking. Reaching an end goal here is extremely easy in comparison to something like WoW.

2. Again, some people are quite happy with their play style no matter how much forcing is going on. No one is taking the incentive away to experiment but those who are happy should be able to pay for the convenience of not needing to use something they don't want.

Seriously guys? An LRM thread can go on for miles but something that could be an actual improvement goes unnoticed?

You can see how things went :)

Might as well bring it up again. Good ideas are like zombies, they never truly die.

Im in the position where the current system is so silly that i prodicted it would be the opposite, and semi screwed up the development of my main builds. Ive used all my c-bills on upgrading my mains (armor, endo steel, dhs, the targeting thing) so i have a ridiculous amount of mech xp on a few variants and no c-bills to buy the other variants i need. I would happily convert my mech xp to gxp using my mc and spend that on other variants but i cant. i literally have like 70k mechxp just sitting there.

Yet another reason to change the system.

Yea, this is pretty much the reason I suggested a 1.5x XP cost for unowned mechs.

The current system feels more like an afterthought... a placeholder or something. PGI didn't really have the time to think it through with all the balance/content to put in the game. When the game will be complete feature/content wise, they'll be able to put more focus on the tree.

There's huge potential here, it just needs to be done correctly.

I think it's just there way of getting our money. If they want it so badly they can still have it.

If you are grinding out the time in one mech or three, what does it matter? You still earned two extra mechs worth of CB in the time it took to get that much XP.

Yes, you should have to buy the mechs, because it is an economy speedbump to keep people from sitting on 40million currency and nothing forcing them to spend it.

Not even World of Tanks forces you to buy the tank before you can spend free xp on it.

If you ever have an economic model more punitive than World of Tanks you probably should think again.

Lets please also remember what we are talking about here.
Experience
Gaining that with something you don't have doesn't make much sense.

General skill verses specific skill. You can take your experience with a similar subject and apply it to something else.
However you generally still have to actually have access to said thing to apply it.

<points out he as suggested 1.5x XP cost for unowned mechs multiple times>

I suppose it could be considered your pilot getting better in general and transferring that knowledge through GXP is the equivalent of "I have driven a truck before, this one is slightly different but I get the gist of it."

Your point has been noted, really don't want this to move off topic.

that was really just for Sy, to point out I don't entirely disagree with the concept.

Edit:
I also though I had posted one of those in another thread, so now i just ended up mentioning it 3 times on one page ><

i am thinking PGI will change whatever they need to make more money out of the players. F2p devs have little wiggle room when it comes to providing anything that is not a grind to encourage players to spend more money
