I just had an excellent game and I happened to be recording it. This is what I feel like mechwarrior should be. I don't mean winning a game or stomping people or finishing with a high kill count. It's hard to put it to words, but I felt for a really long time that I didn't know who was going to win this game and it felt exciting. There was a feeling of intellegency in the air and both teams really wanted the win and were trying to avoid mistakes. Mechwarrior to me is a thinking mans game, and positonal warfare plays a big role. There was no lagshielded lights running a mock bringing everybody down. There was no suiciding clowns. There was no "let's smash our mechs together and see what happens" mentality.

This was a mechwarrior game.

(you can now pick apart the game and flame me, go)

There's a feeling of irony in the air here.

A post that expresses positive feelings toward the game? You clearly have not read the posting etiquette thread.

I quote bullet number three from Garth's post: "If you've got hate in your heart [for this game], let it out!"

But yes, the moments in this game where it all comes together are quite sublime.

Sometimes you get these magic moments in PUGs and I expect that to happen more often once ELO ranking is in place and the system has spread out the ranking a bit.

Ummm... am I the lucky one here or these kinds of pug games (even far closer and intense ones in fact) happen a lot.
And yes, this is what a mechwarrior game is. Patience, tactics, reading the enemy, diversions, focusing fire.
I waited ten years for this. That's my game.
Thanks again PGI, for this promising game. Fullfill that promise, and you are our man for another ten years.

I guess its a perspective thing, I've started in November when all the premade stomping was extreme and then there was the Artemis rain of missile death thing going on, since around mid December i'm having more of these "good" moments, but as usual the general negative matches remain lingering, I think its called negative imprinting or sth like that. :-)

My experience with PUGs is about the same, most of them are decent to good games. I think it might be my play times though.

Good point, I started about 2 months before CB ended, so I started with good performance and good games, dropped down when the OB madness patch and now with performance and balance getting better it's getting back to that.

Get collisions (re: netcode) fixed and back in and it's going to get even better.

Oh the irony. I read and am currently reading the books. And I played many of the previous games.

Saying that a min-max-build like this is what MechWarrior and Battletech defines to a players is just...sad. And "intelligence"? With a build like this? Oh CMON, this must be trolling!

Okay, a bit too hard I guess. A 4-PPC-stalker is no easy mech to play, admitedly. Still...this is not BattleTech or MechWarrior at it was meant to be. If this is fun for you than congratulation. But tracking it back to the core of the franchise is just...wrong. Sorry, in my opinion at least. :)

I'm afraid you are the one trolling. My build was completely irrelevant to the point I was making.

He's talking about the fluidity of the battle he was in, how it played out and felt like a 'proper' battle (i.e. no lag shield or lameness going on) and how *that* is the fundamental experience he is looking for when playing a *Mechwarrior* or *Battletech* game.

I agree with him on that, I don't really care what specific builds people go with, I just want a fun play experience in Mechs.

Yes and I acknowledged that in my edit. But for the complete true and intended BattleTech experience there is something missing, that was my point and my honest opinion. :)

Well no benny hill music. I think it might have ruined the rest of the match :).

First of all, great video!
More people should record their matches like this. Right now I can't play a single match without seeing frame rates in singles digits, so it's nice to be able to at least see some action.

Now for the flaming you requested....
Close to the 7min (6:40 I believe) mark in your video, you blow right through/past an Atlas fighting somebody, then stop directly in front of the Atlas - effectively stopping that player from continuing their attack on the opponent.
You really should have went further to the right, and set up a firing lane that didn't interfere with your team as much.

When collision is put back in the game you'll see more thought put into our fights.

People will realize that rushing at each other is a terrible idea, because half your team will be dumping their faces in the dirt.

Closed Beta people will remember how things were.

I tell you sirs, collision can turn this game away from the spammy lame fest it has become.

Makes people smarter/better mech pilots as you have to be patient with your teammates and enemies.
