So I thought that if you stripped a mech naked, it would always need to carry the weight of its internal structure (10% of max tonnage or 5% for endo steel) and a cockpit (3 tons). But when I strip my Jenner (endo steel) it weights only 2 tons. What am I confused about?

Cockpit and Gyros tonnage is incorporated into Engines.

Are you making assumptions based on tabletop rules, or have you read that bit about weight from something mwo-related?

This seems approximately correct. Endo steel chassis on a Jenner should weigh 1.75 tons, which is pretty close to 2. The cockpit weight is included as part of the engine weight.

blah blah, cockpits, engines, gyros, blah blah.... Nobody's posted this info 3 times above me...

=D

Edit: Oh, and unladen weight also takes into consideration if it's an African or European mech....

Came here to impart this very important information, only to see Valder already informed you.

OK. So can someone help me sum the weight of the default Cicada CDA-2A?

Structure - 4 tons
320 engine - 26.5 tons (getting this from Ohm's data)
128 armor - 4 tons
2 med laser - 2 tons
1 small laser - .5 tons
the 10 heat sinks are included in the engine, right? - 0 tons

total: 37 tons. That's not 40. It would make sense if there ware 3 tons for the cockpit, but apparently, there aren't.
