What if....
At certain planets with Mech-factories, you could custom order, or special order, a mech?
This feature would probably have to be released after the game came out, but the developers could work on making non-OP models, such as an Awesome with two ER PPCs and a gause rifle or flamer? Or instead of three ER PPCs five medium lasers?

It would come at a cost per weapon plus the original mech cost, adding jump jets and etc would also cost double their norm. The Mech itself could also take several days to complete based on levels of customization.

Another addition might be custom color schemes, with more colors and insignias, and an insignia that the player could write on.

It would also be good to keep this from becoming worldoftanks and allow it to be C-bills only.

I understand it would take the developers time to create the customization feature and keeping it from becoming OP.

The way I see it, you should only be able to purchase canon models of 'Mechs, and then tweak them to your liking via the MechLab.

Has already been stated that all mechs and weapons will be equally available to all players. As for the customisation, the mechlab is where you will do that. Looks like a good system too.

What i mean is the swapping of say, an medium laser for a ppc or srm. Or the replacement of one ERPPC for two small lasers and etc.

I like the idea, but here is a add on to it. Instead of having a custom load out form the factory you can take your mech there and have hard points added or moved around. Thus you only pay for it begin modded instead of having to buy a whole new mech, also remember we are dealing with limited mech space. So why have your standard Dragon taking up the space if you are going to have a custom one built.

For an example ( this wont work because the tonnage but ) say you want to make a "IS" Hunchback MK-IIC ( for the looks anyway ) you could have the factory make two ballistic or beam hard points in each torso, granted you have to go with 2 PPC or lower caliber A/C of course but it would look like you had a Hunchback MK-IIC or what have you. Would work if you wanted to switch out for a LRM or SRM single or dual launchers.

Anyway I like the idea of something close to this and would even pay with in reason for these kind of mods.

Wow, i like that better than my original idea, however, i would not want it to become a "world of tanks" thing, and keep it c-bill oriented.
But I LOVE the additional hard-points or weapon swaps.
Thanks for the idea

Meh. Hopefully PGI can keep up a decent supply of new mechs flowing into the game post-launch, all with variants featuring different hardpoint layouts. That plus mech-lab should keep us modders busy enough. Allowing people to pay £ or C$ to mess around with the hardpoints kind of takes away the whole point of having them. It's heading back towards MW3 "every mech is an omni" mech-lab, but only for those who can afford it.

What about offering LosTech like LAM's? This probably a useless question since Land Air Mechs virtually disappeared from the Inner Sphere circa the 2nd or 3rd Sucession War, and the Clans do not even use them. Anyone know if L.A.M's will be offered in game? I know its blurring the line between 'Mech Based Ground Warfare and Aerospace combat- but personally I like the idea of having them.

That could be interesting, but probably not applicable in this game until a later date.

You know, the developers could introduce a sort of Easter Egg Hunting mission into the game where any player online during the limited time event could join in the fun of searching for a hidden Star League cache containing a pre-determined LosTech item. The item could be something like sensors, armor, weapons, command control systems, or even a specific chassis like the Phoenix Hawk LAM. This way, we are preserving the canon of the original storyline while enabling a few lucky players to have some fun with LosTech gear. It would be entirely at the developers discretion when and if they hold one of these types of events.
