You are not a Master of all Cats, but a Master of the Cat A1,K2,C1 and C4. Therefore driving a "Trial Cat C4" you gain no bonus cause "Trial" is an own Variant...

I'm a Master of all Cats that can be mastered within the present system. Incidentally, the trial Cat at present is a C1, not a C4. Also, I do think I mentioned testing it and discovering that indeed, the skills do not apply to trial mechs.

But the point is kinda valid. If I Master the Atlas-D and jump in a trial Atlas-D I should get my perks that I earned for that model.

That would be true if the Pilot tree research actually represented pilot skills, but it does not.
All the items you research there are hardware modifications to your mech, and cannot apply to the trial mechs.

not entirely true... if i master my c1 (or what ever) and sell it, it will still be mastered when i buy it back someday...
the trial C1 on the other hand is a TRIALmech, and thus stands outside of the XP system...simple as that

just a sidenote: if they really split the trialmechs to a seperate que, wouldn´t it be unfair if you jump in there with a mastered mech?^^
trial is trial, own is own... working as intended^^

Well, I said you learn it for a specific variant, not the actual mech.
If you read my post above you, it makes more sense to think of it as learning mech modifications skills. After all, no amount of training or experience piloting the mech is going to allow you to twist the torso more than it was designed, or make it run faster than the stock engine will permit.
So, if you learned how to make custom mods to a C1, and then sell it, when you get a new C1 you still know how to apply the mods.
When you borrow a trial mech, you are not allowed to customize or modify it in any way.
At least that is how it all makes sense to me.
