I don't have to have all 3 variants concurrently to unlock elite skills do i? Game is so buggy that i daren't sell my second variant before buying the 3rd in case it rages at me. Although obviously the mech slot and financing would be very useful ><

you have to own a Variant to unlock skills in that Mechs pilot tree. However, once basic is unlocked you don't need all three at the same time to unlock each individual chassis's Elite skills. in terms of cost effectiveness, id say just gut it out and save up to own all three. you're throwing away half a Mech every time you sell a chassis.
