As Sgt. Johnson would say, the ladies have a reason to like Gauss cannons. A variant of the Catapult can currently dual-wield Gauss cannons. This setup can currently take down most light-heavy 'mechs in the game in only a matter of well-aimed shots.

One shot, or two Gauss hits, can take most Light 'mechs to critical in the midsection, or strip off an arm or a leg.

Two-three shots can do the same to most Mediums.

Four-five for Heavies.

And six-seven for Assault 'mechs.

Since they only need to aim in the general vicinity of a Light to hit it, it's fairly frustrating to see so many Gauss cats running around. While having this much firepower seems extreme to be carrying around, the max tonnage is 65. A Gauss only weighs 15 tons, with 10 ammo/ton, meaning that a Cat can still have a large engine and even a barrage of medium lasers to supplement its firepower. This means that a Gauss cat only needs roughly 33 free tons to dominate most other 'mechs on the battlefield from a vast distance.

This is mainly a post about toning down Gauss Catapults, not the cannons themselves. However, I have seen roughly 20-30 Gauss cats in only about 16-18 matches, or roughly 7-9% of 'mechs. It's a bit ridiculous.

Gr cat's aren't that good. They go slow(usually) can't look up or down, just don't get caught in the open. And don't run straight at them, I've never seen more then 2 on one team. Ac/20 cats seem to be getting more popular, and frankly those worry me more then gauss.Because they brawl, soon as I see one I call it out and try to get everyone to burn him down. Only two alpha's from a ac20 cat will core any heavy mech, and anything lighter.
