When the game is released from the open beta status it would be very nice to be able to purchase a guide.
A standard paperback edition for casual purchasers, code for free guide only bobblehead included. $20-25 price point.
A hardbound edition for the die-hards, code for free guide only bobblehead & skin. A phsyical CD including the full install of the game + bonus material (soundtrack, behind the scenes making of video, whatever) Additional pages beyond the standard edition with concept art/various other artwork. $30-40 price point.
I would definitely purchase a hardbound "guide" for the game. Both editions would include things like the various mechs & weapons with their stats, detailed maps with "suggested tactics"
Looking through the website itself it seems that a lot of the material resources that would be fitting for such an undertaking are already present in a very nicely laid out format, just getting them "to print" with enough incentive for players to purchase it would be the real task behind it.
I for one would love to have yet another piece of real world merchandise like this to put on the shelf/display/whatever. The battletech/mechwarrior franchise is what ultimately got me into tabletop/roleplay gaming, I have at least dabbled in as many of the products as I could, from the tabletop version, cityscape & aerospace included, to the rpg, to the various pc and console games, definitely not to forget virtuaworld and their amazing setups, the one in Dallas, TX with all the props in their "bar" was just incredible. Even the CCG and the WizKids "clix" variation have had playtime with me. No other gaming franchise will ever be able to compete with the many good (and some really want to flip the hexboard end over end and pull all my hair out as I got severely cored) memories I have when playing and/or reading some form of the battletech universe... so please, give me something else to hold in my hands and keep that represents some of the greatest moments in gaming I and many other here have had.
In summary, we want more shiny stuff to have and show to our friends, it would be great to introduce new players to show them some of the things in the game when we can't actually show them the game itself (work, school, whatever the occasion may be) and many of us will be more than happy to hand over good spendable cashy money to have yet another physical piece of swag that represents our favorite gaming moments.
*blinks* That was longer winded than I expects, maybe I shouldn't have ramble off after the suggestions on the "guide" itself.
