Especially when in close combat and getting hit a lot. I read some posts, they mention a bug in the rendering engine. If by design though, big thumbs down as I cannot see to fight back.
Also, you need to start booting AFK/disconnected players.

Like subject says, the patch supposedly was addressing this, but it's still darkening the screen to the point I can't see anything if I unload on a mech point blank with lasers.

I think it's meant to do that. Sudden bright light will cause that. The bug was the catapults causing it just for glowing and at a much larger range than it should have.

It makes no sense that a bright object would make everything around it darker. Light doesn't follow zero-sum principles; it's not like there's a fixed amout of light in the world and the more light something takes, the less light other things have. When you look at the sun does it suddenly appear dark around you?
No, the HDR issue was definitely not fixed and for low graphic setting users it was not even remotely reduced, you still fully blackout and not even your night vision mode can pierce the darkness.

They nerf the glow of mechs to counter act the screen going all black around the glowing mech.
Yet the screen still turns black from too many lasers/missiles/explosions on screen?
Bravo.
The mech glow needed to be turned down a notch, but not that much.
Just like the missiles and lasers need a slight glow nerf, the answer is to nerf the black screen not the glow.

Making the screen go dark when you look at something bright is annoying as hell. Please fix.

They should get rid of that dimming altogether.
