Hi, first time posting, was wondering why equipping 6 small lasers on an the energy jenner, which was a cheap mech to get started with, feels like I am doing hardly any damage? Other mechs seem to have bigger guns, but, I thought this game allowed all weapons to be effective as there doesn't seem to be any ranking system in place.

When this issue is really bad, and I mean really bad, sometimes I come out of a match with 10 damage dealt when I know for sure I held all 6 beams on the back of a target enemy mech at least 3 times for their full duration within range of 80m. I never had this problem on the trial mechs.

What gives? Thanks.

P.S. One last bit of info before I submit - I found that firing the small groups of lasers in groups of 2 instead of all at once helps with heat mitigation but that's about all I learned on my own.

This game is severely lacking in any kind of information or help for new players. Unless you know the table top rules you are pretty much out of the loop. It will drive off a lot of less patient players that can't figure it out on their own. I can tell you that lasers only do damage while they are in contact with a target, they are less effective when outside of their effective range, and they don't seem to do very much damage even when hitting. LRMs Seem to get the most damage if you can keep a lock long enough to hit. Auto cannons do lower damage but if you are accurate you can punch through armor pretty easy.

Until they decide to share some information with us it's all trial and error.

Welcome to the game! Have you looked through any of the guides yet? Here is a good link with some handy charts..

The reason a lot of folks use smalls instead of larger weapons, especially on Jenners, is that you will get more dps out of them.. they have less heat build up per shot which means more shots in before a shutdown. They also fire faster than mediums which also contribute to shot count before a shutdown occurs.

As far as the damage count goes there is two things to consider.. you have to hold your shot on your target for the duration of the laser fire to count full damage. So if you fire but your beam drags off target you only do a small amount of damage. And secondly, I am not 100% sure the damage readout at the end is 100% accurate yet, especially for beam weapons.

Yes, splitting your weapons up into groups is a must to help learn Heat Management!

Check out some of the video guides too. There's a lot of good info there for rookies. ;)

Lasers deal damage over time. If you can't hold the beam for its duration over a single area, you won't get the full damage from it. 6 small lasers can potentially deal 18 damage and that's quite significant. It's hard to hit fast mechs due to some network code issues (you need to aim anywhere from 1-3 mechs ahead of them to hit, test it out with chain fire).

As for the larger mechs, an Atlas has 90+ armor in the center torso front and more for internals. It will take awhile to take one down but you can get it easily from behind since it usually just has 20 armor in the rear before you start hitting internals.

Remember, if you just graze him with your laser and not hold it there for the whole duration, you will not get full damage. Hope this helps. :P
