Hey folks,

Playing MWO for a bit I thought I should post my thoughts on it. Some points may already be covered somewhere but well :)

This should not be seen as a whine thread. Perhaps I just don't understand things, so discussion is encouraged!

Anyway!

1- Bring back the computer voice!
The MWO battlefields seem lifeless without her! I need her calm reassurance that all systems are nominal. I hear she's to be implemented in the future, so my hopes are high 8)

2- Weapon effectiveness
Being a veteran of the Mechwarrior series (MW2 was the first game I bought on CD-Rom. Ahh, good times :) I feel you're not doing much damage compared to the newer games (even MW4), even to lighter mechs. It takes forever to knock a limb off or something. Walking around in a medium feels so useless. Even a light mech might run op to me, exchange some fire and just run away. It's probably a balancing act since the games would be over much quicker, but it feels a bit off.

3- Give new players a carrot.
Perhaps in addition to the trial mechs, give players a light or medium mech for free. This gives much more incentive to keep playing as they can at least customize it, which is a big part of the Mechwarrior experience. Now it feels a bit like a grind. I still have to play about 20 matches until I can afford my own mech, and interest is slightly falling already. It also makes sense from a business viewpoint, as the income from F2p games usually comes after you lured the people in. Give em something to tinker with 8)

4- Matchmaking (obviously ;)
The last match brought improvements, but my usual games are still mostly landslide affairs where one side dominates the other.

The game has great potential! It looks great, sounds good, and I think if these points are tweaked a bit it'll be an absolute blast 8)

As someone with a bit of experience, I think it is a good thing that limbs aren't blown off casually, and people last longer. Simply, it makes for more interesting matches. The most fun to be had is when it degenerates into a big brawl, that stays in doubt for a while. Quick deaths get in the way of that. Additionally, death can still be plenty quick; just play poorly enough sometime and you'll see. Quick Note: Lights, to be viable, really can't be made to blow up as quickly as you might expect.

Most people agree with your third point.

Personally, I don't find your statement to be true of matches I am in anymore. Until you really get going though, it can definitely be very hard to make a comeback. The game is often decided well before it is over. Everyone expects the matchmaker to receive a serious overhaul. (We just had a temporary change to groups, with more to come, but expect it to be more than just grouping affected).

1. Voice is coming back. Just look at the latest OB trailer. Also there are placeholder sound files on your local directory right now which can be enabled by a line for user.cfg. I'm not in front of my computer but I can paste it up later. It's not really worth it though. Only a few phrases and the voice is really soft.

2. Most weapons are TT value. In the early days armour was TT values as well. But as you rightly guessed armour was doubled for balance and fun reasons. It was not fun being cored in one alpha. Games were over way too fast.

3. Can't help you there. Subjective topic really.

4. MM phase 1 has already been implemented which limits groups to 4. Phase 2 will introduce 8 back but that 8 will only meet another group of 8, not a pug. Phase 3 will match based on skill ratings yet to be determined.
